We used Mitel PBX and IP Phones at the town. Yes they call it a hold but it was basically a parking lot. Are there was a Individual Hold which placed it at the phone (could not remote pick up) or a System Hold which placed it on the PBX's parking lot hold. We just programed the buttons to do the system hold. It's different vendor terminology but it's the same thing.

So the parking lot # it put it at was always it's own extension? OK that would make total sense... the guys who set it up must have done that then...

FreePBX is a horrible interface. It is dated and sad. It works, mostly, but leaves a lot to be desired. Ever since FreePBX switched from being an interface to being a full on competitor to Elastix and PIAF they have had a huge incentive, really a need, to develop their own thing. If anything, my guess is that they hope that FreePBX does do something drastic and force them to either take over or abandon FreePBX, not that they fear that. I felt for years that they needed to do this, having nothing to do with source worries with FreePBX.

Simple business pressures would make them do what they are doing. Nothing more is needed.

One way another, GUI or not, that start screen is butt ugly. Functional but.....

Was it just the nic driver or single nic shared by many vms?

This was something @FiyaFly and I worked on together, and I believe he was the one who fully resolved it by changing the baud rate settings on the physical fax machine. But I can say for a fact that this setup worked and is still working today at the site in question.
