I agree, I've seen very little change over the 26 years that I've been in. Since IT has started being a "thing" the processes have been pretty similar. You can go a long time without being on the market and pretty much everything is identical coming onto the market again.

Glacier, for example, is $0.007 per GB to store and free to download and upload costs $.05 per 1,000 requests, which isn't too bad. You pay to store, not to recover, which is nice.

They maybe tied to the admin account you had.

That's still Azure down. To us and our customers, Azure was completely down. All servers offline. It's an outage same as any other. It's localized in its impact to an account based "region" rather than to a datacenter-based region or whatever, but it is an outage just the same. The system was supposed to be up, and it was down and Microsoft was unable to bring it up. Even to Microsoft's own technical team it was an outage that they could not fix (for half a day.)

I like Trello. I currently use a similar self-written system for ticketing and general task management based around scrum and kanban boards (scrumban). The main flaw I've had with it (and the reason for moving to something else) is the management of e-mail "conversations". Our calls often involve several e-mails pinging backwards and forwards between users, and the ability to have this managed inside a ticketing system will be a real benefit.

But the main flaw of ticketing systems is that they're not designed for scrum or kanban. Over 50% of our work is project based, so doesn't fit easily into a standard ticketing systems which is designed around quicker turnaround of calls. I love scrum for project management.

Between my system, Trello, Zendesk and Asana I can picture the perfect solution. However, there doesn't seem to be one single solution that ticks all my boxes. The only way I'll achieve this is by developing my own system, but the time to do that is really time I should be spending on other jobs.

We already are using powershell, albeit from the US to an overseas office.

We don't have an IT guy on site for the remote site, it's all Contract Support. I'm uncertain as to why it was fully deployed, rather than a core installation.

"Easier management of the server" was probably the response to the question.

I think it's the opposite. Pre-internet, when I used to go to training courses and seminars, during the coffee breaks there was nothing to do so everyone talked to each other. Even me, despite being introverted!

Now I go to them and everyone is glued to their phones in silence (or talking to the office). I hate it.

I suspect it isn't so bad in the US, as you're generally a much more friendly and confident bunch, but in the UK it's terrible. One of the main points of going on courses and seminars was to meet people. If I'm not doing that, I may as well stay in the office and join a webinar (webinars - another internet invention that has killed the art of meeting people).

I guess I didn't go to many of those in the pre-Internet phone era. Some, but never met people as everyone kept to themselves even then (think Office 2003 launch party, for example.)

Not unless you modify Xen to add the necessary APIs.

Capacity certainly does though. if you configured your logging off host though, the issue should be resolved.

I don't care if the server is up, I care if the site on the server is up. The site can easily be down while the server is still up.

Got it solved. I started pointing them at a new server (basically starting from scratch). Still got some inconsistencies but that was resolved by toggling the agent to the new server (after I already pointed it at it). Then I fixed the last couple with a disk allocation mod. What a mind-blowing, super frustrating piece of software.
