Also just what I want to continue, the practice of kitchen staff touching filthy paper orders/receipts while they prepare the food that goes into my body.

      Kitchen staff doesn't touch receipts. . .
and 85 % of restaurants use kitchen Printers where they are touching "Filthy Paper orders"
hell there are some that are still using Hand written tickets - which is way less sanitary than Kitchen printers.

@WrCombs Yeh. 7zip is really good, opens about 4 dozen types of compressed files and is free.

Unlike Winrar which after a 40 day free trial will have to purchase and or Uninstall

@WrCombs said in zip and . rar files?:

In my ever growing quest to learn IT I've came across a .rar File (Winrar file -- Right? )

So what's the difference between a . rar file and a .zip File?

I thought they were the same thing more or less just the .rar file is the Windows Version of a .zip file.
And to extra the .zip you have to use winrar (?)

      Excuse the Noobness. Just curious.

So there is no difference - a .rar file is a zip file (both are compressed files/folders)
The only difference in the compressed file is the software you use to compress the file -
Right? or did I totally miss that ?

      Halfway there.

They all do the same thing, but how they do it is different. Like setting up a VPN, they all do the same thing, but use different encryption algorithms. .zip .rar and .7z all use a different compression algorithm by default. Most also let you choose different algorithms as well.

7zip is by far the best out of the ones your looking at. It's so much faster than most other programs.

Gotcha, Thanks for breaking that down.

      Holy Shit.

Eventually John Wick will run out of people to kill.

Big John Wick fan. Discovered it a little late though. I never go to theaters unless I am super interested in a movie. Just had to see JW-P. Prior to that, the last movie I paid for was a kids movie 3 years ago but don't remember which.

I bought it on Amazon Prime Video.
Great movie - I feel like watching them one , two than three would be an intense day

      /sigh

I've decided to give IPhones a try, he coming Weeks (probably next pay day) I'll be going to get that - I want to see what the hype is about with those devices. Everyone Rants and raves about them , so Guess it's time to see.

you're jumping the gun... you should wait until the announcement of the next iphone in a few weeks... then the older models will be discounted.

there's a new one coming out?

my step-daughter has her Iphone 8 and she loves it. I have played around on it only a few times but cannot stand it. The one thing I absolutely enjoy about it is the keyboard. I have 80% less typo's than any other phone I have been on (mostly Galaxy S's).

The iphone 8 seemed slower when moving around than my Galaxy S6. That I don't understand..

See, Im not sure which one I'm wanting to look at / get yet.
I'll have to go and take a look and go from there.

      anyone ever seen
"windows out of virtual memory" errors?

Check the Page File settings and see if it's set to a hard limit. If this is an older OS, that may very well be the case.

Found it, They are set to "no Page file "

    • RE: Fitness and Weightloss

Weighed in at the doctor the other day at 154 lbs ( 5 pounds more than the last time I was there)
for being 5'8 my Dr. said that's an extremely healthy weight.

I've started talking with a Nutritionist - she's put me on a "diet" ( i use loosely.) Nutrition Improvement system to teach me how to eat better and make it sustainable.

the only thing she's given me is Macro Goals - Macro-nutrients are Protiens , Carbs, and Fats
and my Goals are to hit a certain Number of grams per Macro a day. It doesn't matter what I eat (more or less) as long as I hit my Macros before I go to sleep at night, I'm good to go.

Been working out 3 days a week still , mostly at home work outs though ( pullups, push ups, ab works outs) I have yet to join a gym but that may happen.

My goal is to not add any weight and lose maybe 10 pounds and gain muscle.

@scottalanmiller said in Linux OS Thoughts?:

@WrCombs said in Linux OS Thoughts?:

@IRJ said in Linux OS Thoughts?:

      Stick to LTS versions (...hides)

what is LTS Versions vs. Bleeding Edge

That's not a comparison. They are saying Bleeding Edge in an attempt to discredit "Current Releases." Bleeding edge is something wholly different.

LTS: Long Term Support. These are OS releases that are selected (every major vendor does this... Windows, RHEL, Ubuntu, Suse, etc.) to get "support" for a really long time with a guarantee that the code versions won't change. It's a locked release that you can install and use and get "support" for a long time. I say "support" because it's not always what it sounds like. Ubuntu doesn't offer anything we'd call actual support for their LTS, it's all a marketing thing not a tech thing.

Current Release: This is the current product release from a vendor. Windows, RH, Ubuntu, Suse all offer these. Windows, RH, and Ubuntu all have a ~6 month release cycle for current. Suse alone uses a rolling release model. None of these imply anything like cutting or bleeding edge, those terms would denote a misunderstanding of what releases are. A current release can easily include software that is decades old, nothing about it implies a faster release of packages. And if it did, Ubuntu LTS is also "Current" every 18 months, so if bleeding edge is bad, then their LTS is also bad because they would overlap.

      Current selections of both....

      Windows:
      LTS: Windows LTSB 1809
      Current: 1903

      Red Hat:
      LTS: CentOS 8 / RHEL 8
      Current: Fedora 30

      Ubuntu:
      LTS: 1804
      Current: 1910

      Suse:
      LTS: OpenSuse Leap
      Current: OpenSuse Tumbleweed

That makes a lot more sense.
