@stacksofplates docker is worse than reddit. I can’t believe you would suggest such hot garbage.

How is it garbage @VoIP_n00b ? It is quite possible if someone wants to run their Controller as a container. I am not sure why you are also comparing Reddit with Docker, what is the comparison?

I think it's an attempt at trolling.

OK late to the thread. We use a cheap travel router for this purpose. GL.iNET GL-MT300N think we paid $25 for it. Supports up to 4 SSID's and can do VLAN's though we only use 1. We can actual do wifi to wifi bridging with it. We use it for these wifi Sapling clocks that need to connect to a pre-provided WPA2-PSK ssid for initial setup.
This is the newest version: https://store.gl-inet.com/collections/travel-routers/products/gl-mt300n-v2-mini-smart-router
Can get these on Amazon now for $25

Follow up, controller is running again under Win10.

I’ll address a Linux system in the future at some point and move over so it can run full time.

Worth it if you have a hypervisor running somewhere with enough extra resources for it - otherwise, in a home environment - not worth it.

I don't quite get your answer..does that mean it's too easy or it's not worth the effort?

Basically yes, it is not worth the effort. You can setup apt to update automatically yourself quite trivially.

      The same for Let's Encrypt.

Reskimming, I am not sure WTF he is doing with lighttpd I would need to look closer.

But the scripting of the backup to a third party site is going to be totally custom to every install. This is way too complex to setup in a simple script.

It works for him because everything is tied to the Google account.

@jaredbusch Thanks for this link. I'll give it a try. I hope UBNT did not trim the CLI down too much on the USG. I now better understand why Edge series is still the prefered choice for deployment among many🙂

Especially now that UNMS is available, that's pretty slick.

UNMS 0.12.0 (currenlty in alpha) will add the CLI to the web interface.

That's very exciting. So much good stuff happening with UNMS.

I'm hosting my unifi controller on vultr and I didn't have to make any port changes that I remember.

So you didn't open any of those ports I listed?

You do not normally need them.

What don't you normally need them? 8080 and 8443 at a minimum correct?

      Correct.

But I opened the 8880 and 8843 for HTTP and HTTPS for Guest Hotspot portal. Usually not needed for others but in this case it was needed.

      https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/205202640-UniFi-Guest-Portal-Promotional-URL-Automatic-Redirection

With regards to STUN though, you believe is not needed then?

Should not be as your controller is not behind NAT. There is not point to STUN unless NAT is involved.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STUN

How can it mark your post as the solution?

Tell @scottalanmiller to do it because that is a glaring whole in this plugin. Has been reported, but unactioned for years now.

Hey @scottalanmiller can you mark Jared's post with Wikipedia on it for the solution. I cannot for the life of me mark it as a solution.

So I got the Unifi Controller working with the same nginx config as the UNMS. Thanks again @JaredBusch

Now how do I get my AP connected to the controller?

      Take a look at this
      https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/204909754-UniFi-Layer-3-methods-for-UAP-adoption-and-management#Section_5

DHCP option 43 - JB and I were just talking about what option was needed for a non UBNT firewall network to provide that to the APs..
      thanks.

@DustinB3403 said in Unifi - Migrate AP between controllers:

@JaredBusch Yeah my question is odd, just was trying to determine what would be a reason for installing a new controller.

It is an odd line of thinking, I know.

I want to install a new controller, you just install the same version as existing, make a backup, restore backup, change DNS. done.

I have done it more than one time over the years.

This assumes you have a DNS server on your network that you control. If you have no local DNS server, this is a non issue, the AP will find the controller based on broadcast.
