What I've done in situations like this is build my own proxy somewhere to handle getting out and then into wherever I need to go from there.

Wouldn't mind to do any port scanning. A good admin will see this, and there is probably a reason your friends net is locked down. Scanning the network can get his butt faster on the street than he can write pcap.

Anyway, just for educational purposes: Use SSH port forwarding, maybe to a host at your friends home.

This will route every traffic to the desired target through an encrypted tunnel. You may bypass most firewalls by using common ports this way. A bit hard to explain, but there are plenty of tutorials available.

But you mentioned tcp/8080. That port is often used as a HTTP proxy, so your friend probably does not have a direct (routed) connection to the internet at all.

None of it is very clear.

Considering it bounced most request between 20 and 300 random locations in the world for the original address, I'd guess pretty well secured.

But you could just chase the hops back to it's source eventually, so they are adding encryption to it.

Which is pretty awesome.

And this is why I switched back to Apple. 4.5" phone, updates directly from Apple, and no bloatware.

Yup, same here. It's great knowing that there is no artificial crippling me to get me to buy a new phone or to hold back features and such.

Which is why I swear by the Nexus line if you want Android. Apple is still the easiest/quickest game around for phones/tablets tho.

My next phone will be whatever the Nexus line has when I get ready to replace my Note 4.

Like I already told you (PM/chat): Provide more info. What kind of storage? Some consumer grade NAS? Huawei? EMC? NetApp? vSAN? We need to know the brand and model, everything else is just wild guessing on our side.

This seems like a lot of work when he could just look at the phone if it was his phone. What is the real objective here?

So... you can't transfer files because it is desired that you not transfer them. Maybe the issue is that you should not be transferring files?

Evolution, not revolution. 2013 was actually a pretty big change from 2010, that can't do that again for a while. I've not used 2016 but my understanding is that it is very much a "tweak" upgrade.

What unknown device is showing? Maybe a screenshot?
