      That is correct.

      I'm sorry, what is correct?

      "Windows 7 will continue to be supported for security, reliability, and compatibility through January 14, 2020 on previous generation silicon. Windows 8.1 will receive the same support through January 10, 2023. This includes most of the devices available for purchase today by consumers or enterprises."

      We are already in the phase for Windows 7 where all Microsoft is required to supply are security updates. So they'll drop the reliability and compatibility options for new things, but that doesn't mean that a new security update wouldn't work on Skylake - at best, as Scott is saying is that maybe - maybe if you have a problem with a security patch and you're on a system with Skylake, MS won't give you support.

      But the chances are that it will work just fine.

      As for supported versus not supported - when was the last time anyone here called MS for support on a desktop client? Other than asking for a download from a KB I found myself - I've never called them for support.

      You asked a question and I was responding to it with my "You are correct." I hope you are right. I'm just reading their statements, and proceeding accordingly. I am going to proceed on the assumption that any hardware running SkyLake 6th gen or newer needs to be running Windows 10. You might be able to still get patches, from a business perspective it isn't worth the risk in my mind.

      Microsoft could easily not give any updates to hardware running Skylake just as easy. If skylake=no updates is entirely possible and easy enough for Microsoft to implement.

      This would be unprecedented and probably cause reasons for lawsuits. MS has claimed that they will provide security updates until 2020. While it's true, that maybe they could do this, I just don't see it happening.

      What I do see happening is Windows 7/8.1 not supporting all features in Kaby Lake. But again, assuming the typical Intel backward compatibility paradigm, while new features might not work, I would expect that you could install them on Kaby Lake.

      Of course, we're running into architectural changes such as UEFI that older OSes have a hard if not impossible time dealing with.

      This is probably an additional root why MS is making these statements. Windows 7 does not deal well with UEFI, MS had to do some substantial coding to make it work so it's been reported, I can understand their desire to not do that for any more new chips.

      How many unprecedented things have seen this year and last year? It really wouldn't surprise me. If you want to move everyone to a new OS you have to make a stand somewhere and somehow.

      @IRJ yes.

      You could purchase an OEM and do the same. It's called imaging rights and it's included with your VL license.

      I use it to deploy Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 to my workstations.

      OEM windows licenses come with all of my PCs. I bought 1 (really I bought 5) Windows Pro licenses with SA. this grants me the right to create deployable images of the same version of Windows as the OEM license grants me.

      I've proposed that in the past as the "there is no such thing as full protection via hardware". The theory is that the "burn" mechanism is so close to the drive that you can't do a byte by byte copy, but I find it unlikely that that is true.

      Yes, I know you have.

      My experience with staffing companies is that they get more than 2%. Most of the time I have worked with them I have been able to negotiate a higher salary. I know they have to have more wiggle room than 2% to allow negotiation on salaries.

      Why? They simply pass the cost along to the company you really work for. I'd guess that the employing company and the staffing company have some sort of agreement of salary range for the position. Though if you think about it, assuming a straight percentage is how they are paid, it would be in the best interest of the staffing company to get all staff placed at the maximum rate the position allows.

      Not if the customer sets the price. All depends on the contract.

      Yes.

      @Dashrender said:

      And if you do, do you think removing the walmart/mcdonalds jobs from their reach will make them go toward them?

      Yes, but not in the short term. In the short term it will be a mess because society also has to change., and societal change happens slower.

      I totally agree. This could never be an overnight transition. How people think about education, working, life values, raising kids, homemaking, art, welfare, food, healthcare would all have to change and not just be mandated but become part of how society thinks.

      Sorry to resurrect the dead, but this will help anyone who is experiencing the server database connection issue

      7- SWAP File
      A common issue that WordPress users have is the dreaded “error establishing a database connection” error that breaks a website. This is almost always due to your memory being completely used up – your database can’t create any new information because your RAM is jam-packed full. There are two reasons for this:

      You have a bajillion different versions of your posts (by default, WordPress saves all older revisions of pages and posts so you can recover previous copies).
      You didn’t have enough memory for your usage to begin with.
      If it’s the former, we suggest you download a plugin like Better Delete Revision – this will clean up all the old copies and free up some database memory. If it’s the latter, and in the case of setting up a new server on Digital Ocean, you need to create a swap file. It’s a bit more complicated, so luckily, Digital Ocean has their own handy guide on how to create permanent swap memory in Ubuntu. This creates a file that, yes, swaps in and out as memory gets full, allowing for reallocation of files to keep your memory clear.

      Social Media is king these days. I only spent about $50 in advertising for this traffic. Using Facebook Groups to promote our site has been highly effective. I have also gained more blog authors due to the amount of exposure.
