When your best app option is TuxRacer, this doesn't surprise me. I used Linux on the desktop in college because it limited hugely what I could do and that provided more stability than anything.
My OS X laptop hasn't been rebooted in 2 months so I'm not sure what your doing wrong with your mac's but stop doing it!
@Scott - OpenBSD are the guys who like singing funny songs about CARP. For this reason, I like them for firewalls, and if you want Linux on the desktop hate systemD and don't like Debian it's an option?
Just generic unprivileged users. App crashes and system crashes are fairly common.

The only issue I have is Outlook crashes one a day, Skype 4 Buisness is unusable (but that's true on Windows) and Onedrive is a giant turd.

Linux on Desktop - For masochists who somehow lack my burning hatred for SystemD.
The only thing I don't like about SystemD is the logging. But parallel execution is so much nicer than alphabetized init scripts.
I use Linux on the desktop but I don't have a lot of app requirements. 90% of what I'm doing is web based and the other 10% is done in Git, Atom, or sometimes other utilities like Inkscape.

I use Gimp and inkscape also, usually defaulting to inkscape. I am a fledgling graphic designer, not that I would ever call myself that, I just sometimes need to edit images for use on websites, or make simple logos.

Usually what the argument against Opensource comes down to is they don't want to have to learn new ways of doing things. It is change and people don't like that unless someone holds there hand. As a line from a favorite song says "Do you really need a genius to teach you Garage Band?"

@penguinwrangler Change happens regardless of what you do. Look at windows 7 vs. windows 10. You have to learn whether you want to or not. We just decide what you're going to learn.

There were a few times that open source won big when it changed less than closed source did. Windows 8 was a huge leap, but those staying on LXDE saw very little change from Windows Vista and 7. When MS Office 2007 released, OpenOffice got tons of customers because it kept Office 2003 style interfaces that were better known to users.

In last 9 years I had 2 kernel panic crashes on Macs. Both caused by 3rd party apps (Hands off and Teamviewer). My apps don't crash, at least I don't recall any, and os never crashed, since I started using Macs. Your hardware might be messed up, but that's what Apple Care and local Apple stores are for.

Has Gimp managed to get CMYK support yet? Ask any serious designer that needs to produce something for press printing to do it in Gimp and they'll happily hang you by the nuts.

Don't do any print work with Gimp so I never looked. Point was there are 0.1% of the people that say they need Photoshop that actually do. If you seriously need it that's fine.

@stacksofplates last time I tried to ditch PS for Gimp I felt like I couldn't do anything I needed but maybe it was just a learning curve.
