- Binary log files in systemd rather than text.
- start/stop scripts are in a new location instead of the /etc/init.d I'm used to
- Systemd is supposed to be faster by starting things in parallel instead of serially.
That's off the top of my head.
Doesn't mean it's not still crazy.

Maybe just reject the job and go talk to his boss anyway - tell him how much their guy is hurting them.. and since you withdrew your name, you're telling him because you believe in good IT, and that guy is clearly not giving it to them.

I believe he reports to the president (she was in the interview today and said the same thing about the salary). He might be good at bench work because he was talking about how the cabling was bothering him and whoever set it up before he was there didn't use patch panels, etc (but that's low level stuff). But he's one of the "Systems Admins" (there are 2 for like maybe 5 servers). They are "swamped" with work and need another person to come on.

Similar setup here, maybe 50% more junk and ppl but with 3 IT staff (two techs, one admin), and 5 locations (and counting)

Ya but you have more servers (possibly, they are running their other VMs on virtualbox) and more staff and only you doing it. They have 3 people and adding another, and only maybe 25 of the staff are using computers, the rest is in a warehouse doing packaging and blending.

I mentioned something about moving to XenServer or some other type 1 hypervisor in the first interview, and he said they don' t have the money for that, that's why they're using VirtualBox (didn't really know what to say to that). They have Windows Server physically installed on different servers and then they are running VMs in VirtualBox on the servers. It's a mess from what I've heard. They gave me a "tour" today, but I didn't get to see the server room.

Hopefully that's why I haven't heard a salary price yet, they're counting how many buckets per hour I'll be getting.

Just ordered a new laptop and SSD for the boss. He's been doing without for more than a year now. I am surprised he made it this long with only a Surface Pro 2.

Funny thing is technically google is virtualized. Just not in the way he's thinking with Vmware/Hyperv and a Guest OS. It's software level with containers and very powerful.
Most people don't have that scale of things doing the same task though.
