Tools to de-crapify Windows 10?
-
Are there any good tools that can help remove all the crap from Windows 10?
I'm thinking spotify, cortana, user metrics collection, xbox, onedrive etc.
Even Enterprise edition have xbox...wut?When I've removed lots of this stuff manually, when you get updates it all appears again. And also it looks like it has to be done for every account on the same machine. So I probably been doing it the wrong way.

This is basically what I've done before:
Get-AppxPackage *bing* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *Zune* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *xbox* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *windowsmaps* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *feedbackhub* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *yourphone* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *skype* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *one* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *mixedreality* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *windowscamera* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *3D* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *officehub* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *solitaire* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *wallet* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *549981C3F5F10* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *office* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *gethelp* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *getstarted* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *WindowsSoundRecorder* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-AppxPackage *windowscommunicationsapps* | Remove-AppxPackage
And then install chocolatey and the basic programs we want like firefox, libreoffice, acrobat etc.

Yeah i used to use a powershell script for this.
https://community.spiceworks.com/scripts/show/4378-windows-10-decrapifier-18xx-19xx-2xxxNot used it for a while so not sure what it does in modern versions.
-
Tronscript has some of this, I'm not exactly sure what it will/will not remove.
It annoys me so much that Candy Crush is actually part of Windows on a default install. Then add in Teams, etc...

I still use this script for my builds. I of course tweaked it for my needs, leaving in the Calculator, paint, camera, and sadly, the store. Removing the store causes so much damage - just remove the icon, then most will never know it's there.

But how else would you know you're on a business ready operating system if you didn't have Candy Crush out of the box?

We use this one several times a day. We haven't delivered a new Windows 10 PC in the last year without it!
I have made some changes to the default (just remming and un-remming as suggested by the author)
When we setup a new PC: Step one: initial install screens, Step two: Install ScreenConnect, Step three: run DeCrappify via SC. Then on to whatever else needs to be done.

Speak up if you try it and have any questions.
This is what the Start pop-up looks like after we run it.

This script has all that is needed to modify to add your own icons to the start menu, as well as the start bar.
I run this script in audit mode, then run a sysprep - this then sets my settings for all users of the system.
I honestly can't recall if this keeps the crap at bay when I upgrade to the next version or not?
-
This is a script we run immediately after pushing the decrapp.ps1 through SC Toolbox on new systems.
Start Jewel-> Powershell->Run as Administrator cd \users\[admin username created during initial windows power up]\Documents\ScreenConnect\Temp Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted ./decrapp.ps1 Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Restricted

you're not feeding it any arguments? Did you change it completely inside the script to suit your needs?

This one appears to still work, haven't tested it recently though, but makes it easy see what is there and what to kill:

@Pete-S That's for asking when you did. I'm buried in new computers and laptops at the moment, gonna save a lot of headaches.

That's correct. I just looked at the script. I did not make any changes.
I had tried another script, and it had lots of places to make edits. This one was perfect for us as-is.

I also note the I an running the "June 21, 2019" version but the link I posted is to the Oct 2018 version. I'll look for the updated link.
There are so many people that have reposted this script, that it can be difficult to know which one you have.
Here is a link to the original author's page and current script dated Oct 22, 2020:

Thanks-
Mine got hit with the ‘feature’ update. -
This script worked great!
I just tried it on a new laptop and it removed lots of stuff nobody needs.
