Build is totally the wrong term. There is no building. It's just an install.

You run an installation script, which in turn builds the app from source.

It installs from source, does not build. Building implies compiling. You don't "build" MS Office when you install it, it just installs. Same with XO. There is no building, just installing.

The thing that allows for the quirk in the language (aka: "from source") is that it is an interpreted language, so you are installing "from source" but the source doesn't get compiled, just copied. The same as any installation.

So if you copy a text file from one spot to another....

cp file.txt file2.txt

You just "installed from source". But it's just a copy command.

@scottalanmiller I know were splitting hairs, but if that were completely accurate, then you could simply git clone the repository and then run the app without performing npm install or npm build.

We highly recommend the paid version. Support is a great thing, pre-built appliance is awesome... just don't think that it isn't free for those that want or need it. It's totally free and open source, too.

No XenServer in production here right now, so wouldn't be prudent.

How can anyone be a XS "proponent/advocate/promoter" but not use it in production?

@DustinB3403 Can you talk a little more about your prod XS: how many hosts, how many VMs, when was this setup etc?

I have 4 host (2 standalone, and 2 in an HALizard Pool).

On the pool, I've only got 3 VM's atm (will be going up in a in the next week or so). The pool has been up for about 4 months, the Standalone servers have been running for close to a year using MD RAID.

On my "production" standalone host I have 10 or so VM's running at any given time. I use it to run VDI tools, XO, and IT appliances that don't reach my general user base.

The pool is running our file servers, exchange server (federated services exchange) and an application server that is running SW for a separate department.
