You are not leaving the modem off long enough to clear the ARP cache then... Give it a try and also unplug the coax cable to physically break the connect and leave it for 5 to 10 mins then reset the MAC to a new one and see if you get a different IP on a new Subnet... I bet if you do the internet performance is much better...

I do it does perform better after I reset it. However with pfsense I never had to reset it. So I'm wondering what configuration is wrong that's causing it.

Which a lot of the Netflix hubbub was not actually about. Comcast actually was putting traffic shaping into their pipes. Like 15 years ago. But people have rioted and screamed about that for years. Deep packet inspection is a pipe dream at the moment for ISPs bigger than your typical rural WISP. The amount of hardware and software required for it would be immense. And just doing per route shenanigans doesn't help when you have a CDN that can change the destinations on a whim.

    It's a super complicated issue.

So what was the hubbub about then? I understand the peering point discussion and agree that (CDNs not withstanding) that who ever Netflix's original ISP was, that provider was probably violating their peering agreement with the rest. But that isn't Netflix's problem, that's their ISP's problem. If the ISP now needs to pay off all of it's peers because its peering usage was unfair, fine.. if they needed to pass that fee along to Netflix, again probably fine.

I'm sure I'm overly simplifying it and would love to know more about it.

Should work fine. I've got 14.04 and 14.10 and they run fine under 200MB.

With a full GUI? Maybe I misunderstood, I thought he was running the full fat version from the OS description - I figured they'd have a different file for the core OS

No, I never install GUIs on servers 🙂

    We know....LOL

Well you have 21 days. but the BP is to uninstall Exchange from SBS, demote the SBS and then unjoin it from the domain before the 21 days are up.

    There goes exchange.

I also found this.. .I'm still reading it. But could be useful.

    https://www.cogmotive.com/blog/office-365-tips/archiving-a-mailbox-for-terminated-users-in-office-365

And there is a minor rub in that. The free O365 lic includes E1 level, to do this operation they need to be E2 lic, which is under the paid section.

As the process will 'free the license' any reason why I can't push a e1 lic to an e2, follow the process - which should then release the e2 license?

Ended up Picking up the Dell PowerConnect 5448 instead of the Baystack 5510 which means it's layer 2 instead of layer 3. The main reason is I could not find any configuration guides or list of commands for the baystack. Both are gigabit switches and the Dell cost 2x as much as the nortel but, at least in the dell I know I can replace the fans with silent ones for home use.

I especially enjoyed the comparison to manufacturing - given me something to google later 🙂

That should be fine for everything expect the Forigate I think you might be stuck doing it manually. Nedi was working on supporting them at one point so you may check their forums out and see what became of it.

Why should I do it more often than that? Linux boxes have been known to go years without rebooting.

Because it provides for safety and reliability. Just because machines CAN go without rebooting doesn't make it a good idea. And reboots are not to make systems run better, they are to protect against the unability to reboot when things are critical. No amount of "systems can run for years without a reboot" matters because that's not related to why we reboot.
