      sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils -y

      a quick google search:

Add the PPA to your sources list by running

      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:relan/exfat

      in your favourite terminal emulator

Install the fuse-exfat and the exfat-utils packages:

      sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install fuse-exfat exfat-utils

Now you should be able to use the SSD

    • RE: The Fire Inside

My Family is the biggest reason I took a Job in this field or even started to pursue IT.
But it's not what you would think, My dad told me I should look into IT because I was sitting around the house always playing on a computer, but never really doing anything else. I'd sit around and play video games, and read. Play on the computer, sometimes play with "Old Clunkers" wiping the OS and seeing what I could make work.

That's about as far as that goes, He lit the Fire but My Uncle couch Cough is the reason I'm on this Site, and why i started doing more with IT , He gave me the ability to read the threads here and even had me doing some Bench work with him at his site. He would spit out a bunch of things that I still cant remember, but through the times of reading, stuff he had said has came back randomly, and has solved many issues.

But I do what I do now for My son, My branch off of the family. I needed to have a better job and have something i enjoyed doing. I needed to provide a better life for my family, as the "head of Household" and teach my son all of the things I wish I would have known .

Quick search, looks like This Guy had the same problem, and it seems he resolved it. Either registry or malware. I'd check malware first.

      This fixed it!

That's great. Never heard of Messer, but the videos look pretty good. Any specific recommendations on a lab setup for them?

Get them an EdgeRouter lite and a single unifi AP, have them configure to start with.
@Dashrender did that with me when I was first starting to learn it.

So for some reason I couldn't get it to work with the to or from email addresses: however I set the rule to filter for Aloha_Support_forum and Bingo- They are no longer cluttering up my inbox!

Set it to skip the inbox and auto apply my filter, did the same for all matching conversations. Just had three come in and didnt get a single on in my inbox.
      I call that a win.

It could be a false positive hitting it. See if you can whitelist the directories for your app so Security Essentials ignores it.

Okay, That sounds great. But im a Noob how do you do that?

Open Control Panel > Windows Defender (if not there, then upgrade and install it) >Options > Exclude files and folders

This site is using Microsoft Security Essentials - I was able to figure it out and got it excluded for our App - Going to test for the week and see where we go from there, Thanks Dash

    • Getting the RNX-N150NUB wireless adapter to work on linux

I purchased a RNX-N150NUB wireless adapter with every intention of using it as soon as possible.
I am running a Fedora 26 XCFE Linux kernel, the only problem is this is set up to be ran on windows OS dating back to XP and Vista. Ive tried looking else where but there is nothing about getting it to work.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

What sort of budget could you throw at it?

right now? nothing for the next 2 weeks

Then just send it back and do without until you have a clear need. Having a laptop is great, but don't get one just to spend the money and definitely don't get something ridiculous that is bordering on useless based solely on a need to use it as a device for a job that didn't provide you a laptop for home.

I don't consider it really acceptable to expect to do a job and not be provided the tools to do the job. They don't expect you to come to work and bring your own computer - why would they expect you to work from home on your own gear?

Speaking of that - are they paying your cellphone bill? I'm assuming you are using that for work purposes as well while you are at home on call.

They pay a portion of the Cell phone bill

@DustinB3403 said in Buy Process Failures and Where things went wrong:

So in a recent post @WrCombs is looking to setup a personal laptop to act as 1) His daily driver 2) a Hypervisor to setup test workloads for his job. Now @WrCombs don't take anything in this post to be an attack on you or your education to this point in time.

The laptop in question is Acer A114-31-C4HH with Windows 10 Home

The specific device is critically important as this device won't work in any reasonable fashion for the expectations. With that these are a few questions I have.

      • What research was done ahead of time?

I made a post on ML What Are You Doing Right Now - The Laptops I was given were out of price range due to unforeseen circumstances , Made the price range I had in mind Shrink. and I was so excited that I just pushed forward without taking into consideration that this could be a horrible mistake. Out side of that, I did not really look at it more than saying " this looks like itll work for work for now"

      • Is there a solid understanding of hardware basics to be making these types of decisions?

Solid understanding Roughly, No looking at it 4 GB Ram and 32 GB Storage is horrible in comparison to what I should be having.

      • The hardware specifications are so subpar that the question has to be asked of @WrCombs what do you think would be reasonable to have in a laptop and perform the functions you're looking for?

I use 4 GB Ram at work on my Desktop and had 4 GB Ram in my old Laptop - So Ram isnt neccisarily the problem- its more needing more than 32 GB of Storage. Something 500 or Higher is Reasonable / preferred.

      • Is there something we can do to help you to educate yourself to avoid this kind of issue in the future?

      @Obsolesce said in Self-education Resources:

We all want to and should continually exercise and grow our minds. The best way to do this is to never stop learning; to keep educating ourselves both within our field, and outside of it. The benefits are countless. You don't ever want to stop creating and strengthening new neural connections, synapses.

What courses or resources do you use for self-education?

I want to focus first on IT related resources, but I also and to included non-IT if it doesn't get too messy.

Lately, I've been using edX.org. Does anyone else use that? What are your favorite courses?

I know some of you use Linuxacademy.org. What courses have you done there? What do you recommend or don't you recommed?

Another one, here on ML (and even ML itself):

      SAM: Learning Linux System Administration
      https://mangolassi.it/topic/7825/sam-learning-linux-system-administration

      What about Microsoft?

      Microsoft Docs
      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/

      What else?

The goal of this topic is to have an up-to-date or current consolidated place of tried-and-recommended learning resources for IT on the web, as well as some appropriately labeled and specified non-IT resources. No stale resources please.

I've used Cybrary.it for a while - they have courses on ( i believe) everything possible in IT that you could think of
