      So what company hired you?

An MSP called nDivision. VERY high level Dell partners. They've had phenomenal growth since their founding, so I'm excited to kind of get in on the ground floor.

Cool. What will you be doing?

L1/L2 work for their clients on the break/fix side. As far as what that fully entails, I couldn't tell you at this point. But I'll be able to Google issues I'm having that I'm not familiar with again...I've missed that.

The way I look at it, HP build PCs in Eastern Europe where they pay staff a pittance (at least they used to, I guess they might be assembled in China now), they have hugely beneficial agreements with Microsoft on the licencing, and massive buying power for all the components and yet they still can't sell them to me and make any money which is why they've been trying to sell their PC business for years. If they were making huge margins I might think I can get some of the action, but they're doing all this for me for pretty much no profit. I'm happy to leave them to it..

That's a great way to look at it. They have huge scale in parts, huge scale for MS licensing agreements and the ability to source everything from locations that cost far less than "in house" IT will cost. And their margins are effectively zero. You can leverage that scale or you can do everything yourself.

If you have internal bench services, pay them minimum wage and keep them busy around the clock.... you still can't match the cost that the big vendors have. If you want the people assembling your computers to have any skill, get paid a reasonable amount (more than a gas station attendant) and to do so in high cost locations (like anywhere in the US or UK) then you can't match the prices or come anywhere close. And heaven forbid that you have any moment where the tasks for the bench are not completely repetitive and predictable or that they are not kept 100% busy. Then it really all falls apart.

What's the purpose of having a stateful laptop, then, if there isn't data stored on it?

We have a VPN setup, so we can work from home if we have to.

That's not a good reason. Why a VPN from a laptop rather than a remote access gateway? What is the value of the VPN? Obviously they see it as a security concern.

I don't make the decisions or get told why things are the way they are. I just have what I have.

I dislike transitions in general. From sitting to standing, getting off of the couch, getting into bed, getting out of bed, getting into the shower, getting out of the shower, starting to each, stopping eating. Doesn't matter, I always like to continue what I am currently doing. It's weird.

I can appreciate that. I hate getting into the shower almost as much as I hate getting out! I just dislike change in general.

Power, Water and Sewer I can understand - but phone, cable, internet - we're not talking huge items here. While I will agree that the government should PERHAPS own this and allow at cost access, I don't see running more fiber/copper, etc into neighborhoods as physically restricted as water and sewer.

It's not as restrictive but once you don't have the right to do it, you don't have the right to do it. It's a black and white issue in many cases. No one wants twenty carriers running lines down the telephone poles. It gets very messy very quickly. And if you go underground then you are looking at digging up a whole city to let a new carrier in. It's not impossible, but it is just as effective as water or sewer in most cases and definitely as restrictive as power.

That is not the point. Until Microsoft changes their stance, it is not supported.

Okay, it's not supported as a method, it is supported as a technology (the fact that it is on SD is supported, just not how it got there) but it is what their rep recommends. So they have an internal conflict between recommendation, support and road to achieve that goal.

1800 flowers is just a middle man who connects you to a local florist anyway

Exactly. I know it's the local floral shops that get the business. I just hate calling places. Like once I'm on the phone, I'm fine. But something about me just HATES calling people I'm not close friends with on the phone. If I know I'll get someone I don't know, it's even worse!

Local Florists will give you better options. They might have something seasonal that isnt on 1800flowers.

Yeah, true. I just hate talking on the phone.

I'll be the middle man and save you $20. you can paypal me $10 😛

      Hmmm....tempting...
