Again, we would only do this if business needs require it. But my question is more centered around how people get the gear to fully test out VSAN and do a proof of concept before they deploy it?

Bigger companies that care about testing maintain labs with lots of hardware to test this stuff. That's the price paid for all kinds of necessary testing.

And I am certain their internal IT is much larger than our 4-person team.

With a small team you are stuck leveraging: reviews, logic, anecdotal evidence, vendor reputation and guesswork. Just the nature of being small. Leverage what the big boys do, applying logic as to when what they do matters only at their scale rather than at yours. The way that SMBs compete is by not doing all of the expensive lab work and trusting the work of others. The way that enterprises compete is by doing their own research better than someone else does it and getting a technical advantage.

One is about blazing new ground, the other is about running agile and low cost.

VeeamOne Free is also a really nice utility to look at what's going on in your VMWare environment. Plus, it's pretty friendly.

      http://www.veeam.com/virtual-server-management-one-free.html

Are you running it on the same server as your Veeam B & R install or on a different server?

Same server. It's on a VM that also runs Spiceworks, WSUS, and PDQDeploy. Lot's of good graphs. I'm using the "paid" version, but the free looks like it has many of the same features.

Oh we have clients who do this as well. It usually takes months to get them conditioned to react calmly when they do then we get things done more quickly and efficiently.

Here is the wiki article on how to do it.

      http://dokuwiki.elastix.org/doku.php?id=how-to_install_elastix_from_centos5

This is CentOS 5... although you should be able to use it to help with the new version.

Why should I do it more often than that? Linux boxes have been known to go years without rebooting.

Because it provides for safety and reliability. Just because machines CAN go without rebooting doesn't make it a good idea. And reboots are not to make systems run better, they are to protect against the unability to reboot when things are critical. No amount of "systems can run for years without a reboot" matters because that's not related to why we reboot.

Supposedly there is no software to install on any endpoint. But without that, how are you going to handle and filter traffic for roaming devices? Maybe I missed something as I glanced over their literature.

probably because either they forgot about roaming devices, or they expect you to set DNS to their public IPs regardless of where you are, which we all know probably won't work.

I've Had similar issues. I've found on some Android smartphones turning off the "noise reduction" in the dailer app settings can help. Though it's going to make their calls noisy so I don't find it to be a great solution.

Well sure, every environment is different. If you're happy you can run the place with two people @NetworkNerd then that's cool - only you know your environment. I just thought it seemed a little light based on environments I've worked in.

What does your company do, out of interest? I see you have one of those magical green "service provider" tags so does that mean it's an IT company?

I wish that we had "where I work" and company detail options in our profiles. That would be a very nice feature to have added in here.

I have this problem, but it's on PCs not on tablets. And like you, we have to clear the cache, and sometimes reset the browser to make it function.

And part of our issue is that we are using Mobilock to lock down the tablets so users can only do what they need to do (basically web and e-mail access only). So when they hit the cache wall it becomes a work stoppage because they cannot make changes to the tablets themselves.

It sounds on the surface at least that we are both suffering from some sort of cache corruption.

Yeah, that would make sense. I almost wish there was a way to disable caching on the tablets.

That's awesome that there is more variety and ability to focus more. I agree, DC would be the best in general, Cloud probably the second most general. Network and Desktop seem far more focused and likely to be used in less general career options.

Reid is dead on. Since it's a vSwitch, no traffic should leave the host as long as the communications are only between those two VMs.

You really only choose something else if you want to scale more. The built in one is pretty limited. It's the same as using SQLite, basically. MySQL is what people use when they want something more robust.
