Log Me in Does.. No agent has to be preinstalled for connecting on the local network without user interaction.

@scottalanmiller said in Alternatives to LMI:

Yes, the end user gets a link to download an on demand agent. It disappears as soon as you are done using it. This is LMI Rescue, not the normal LMI.

Maybe I'm being dense (it's been a long day!)., but how is that "without user interaction"?

Just a stupid way to do it would be run a script remotely to run the temp agent if both are on the same domain.

Which would really just make it an installed agent.

      Not pre-installed no it isn't.

Why don't you get an Intel Nuc for light gaming.

      Doesn't fit a GPU.

Be realistic, the budget is $600. for that you aren't getitng much of a GPU, and the GPU in the current Gen Intel CPUs is pretty darn good compared to what you'd get at that price anyway.

    • RE: MS System Center Licensing

Keep in mind we're only using VMM - no other SC products. Under System Center Standard, do you need a Server ML for each VM in addition to each host? They both count as OSE's, right? We have 100 VM's - this is not an option.

We can upgrade our System Center ML to Datacenter for roughly twice the cost, and that includes unlimited VM's. With SCVMM, a Server ML covers two physical CPU's. So would I need to license only the physical endpoints, right? (IE - two hosts with 2 sockets each, hosting 100 VM's = 2 SC Datacenter Server CAL's)

Here's the deal, if you keep using the old version you still fall under the same licesnsing. IF you are using the newest(or newer) under SA you then have to follow the EULA for that version which means you do need to license each host if you did datacenter. with Standard you need one license for every two on the same host (it has VOSE just like server OS).

It's legit. And Third Marketing is BSAs marketing and PR company so the manage their sites.

You can also find links to that campaign site (bsa.country) on bsa.org

    • RE: VLAN Site - to Site VPN Issues

MPLS is most likely using BGP and advertising the networks. a VPN needs a Phase 2 entery for every network (or a superscope that covers it). VPNs also need proper firewall rules compared to MPLS which is usually treated as trusted.

Is it really that much cheaper for DSL? Since the fiber is already built out, won't they let you drop the speed/rate? Normally they don't like to decrease their minimum monthly spend, but if you're going to leave them entirely, they might make an exception.

It's leased fiber to our data center, not internet fiber. Internet pipe comes into the datacenters. Yes it's a major difference DSL is like $40/month.

BTW this type of fiber is sometimes called Dark Fiber.

      Who owns that fiber?

I used to refer to the fiber between our two buildings that we own completely as dark fiber, and I was filleted on SpiceWorks for it.

It's leased it would be insane to own fiber over multiple states. It's likely TWC/Level3 or Verizon owned.

      Confusion?

Strange new branding... At least they didn't name it "G Spot".

Annnnd there we go... where I wasn't going...

If I ever move a business off of the Office suite I know that I will be shopping extensively for a training company. Training budget will probably exceed the cost of whatever email/office solution I go for.

If they just use basic word processing features they want notice a difference hardly. It's when you get people doing macro's and forumla's that's the problem.

Yeah, the NOT is wrong, WQL doesn't contain a "not like" operator but you can move the not to the beginning of the condition to negate its value. Thus, this will work
select * from Win32_computersystem where not (Name like "%W" or Name like "%W0[1-8]")

      Worked like a charm

Right, of course, but then my "concern" is the theft of that device. Are we comfortable with Bitlocker keeping it out of non-NSA hands? (AKA your average theif.)

Bitlocker is currently still understood to be completely safe for its intended purpose. It protects a non hibernated/sleep moded powered off computer. Your normal home invasion thief is going to pull the power plug and run away with the device. Once the device is powered down like this, Bitlocker will protect your home made pornos, er I mean data.

Also having a small box like Scott mentions allows you to hide it pretty well too, an Intel NUC and an External HDD, can be hidden pretty easily - though getting power there could present it's own issue.

I'm more interested in hearing how the "no local data" camp deals with this.

IMO, this is a pretty big ML push ... no local data. No servers, and no data on the local machines.

Stop Listening to everything Scott says and think on your own...

and yes as @JaredBusch said Onedrive etc are sync not backup.

RAWs biggest limitation is you can't storage vmotion it. You can vmotion the pointer but if you are retiring a SAN or something you will be doing it manually.

Daisy chaining any UPS, Power Tap, Surge Protector etc. Is always not allowed unless what's plugg into it has over current protection and even then it's frowned upon.

Sure we stay current.. but for example office was release every three years (2007-> 2010 ->2013 - >2016) It was cheaper to buy new outright than to use SA.
