https://www.carbonblack.com/ they are good for executable whitlisting. Though a developer there once had his computer compromised by not having the software installed, and got malware pushed out with the product because he didn't tell anyone. But let's not talk about that haha.

What's something like this cost? Looks to be expensive. No pricing on the website is a bad sign 😉

It's not crazy expensive. Configuring it takes a while. It's not AV. It is a Whitlist only/Default Deny package.

What do you do for DCPromo scenarios when you are on a headless box?

      https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/ashleymcglone/2013/04/18/touch-free-powershell-dcpromo-in-windows-server-2012/

DCPromo was replaced by a powershell command.

And a very complex one at that I have to look it up all the time.

    • More Issues with A Small orange..

The Saga counties.. Took over three weeks for them to get to a ticket. They say the issues isn't happening right now (of course it's not, you waited three weeks but I guarantee you the server will start having issues again in a few days it always does).

I screenshot how long it took to get a response posted it to my website and their facebook about how slow they are.. ASO deleted my website. No refund. They say their policy allows them to to take down sites without a refund if they feel they would like too.

A very telling thing about ASO new attitude is the fact that they have removed reviews from their facebook page, and delete or hide almost every comment on posts now. https://www.facebook.com/asmallorange/

So we have the above Wireless controller and access 10 Accesspoints (which is about double what we actually need) and people are complaining of poor wireless performance.

With the free apps that one can download from the google play or apple stores I can confirm there are drop offs in coverage because of the way the units are pointed etc.

But don't have any solid way to document the throughput of the AP's and a coverage map of the units.

Any wireless experts out there have any recommendations. (obviously moving the AP's or redirecting them to area's is an option)

Ekahau has a free tool, if I recall correctly. It's for Windows Laptops, I think.

I use WolfWiFi Pro on my Android... it's $50 bucks (but was worth it to me)... It will let you import a floor plan and do heat maps and everything else with it.

Keep in mind these things don't account for concrete, metal, etc. nor do they account for having your signal levels too high.

    • Cisco vs Pfsense preformance for VPN

How would the performance compare on a hardware cisco router (like the 2911) vs using Pfsense in a VM? we need to bring up a temporary one to support about 200 users. Already have the router and licensing just not sure how the two will compare. I would think the 2911 would do much better.

They will be doing VPN only, nothing else.

Heck there's still plenty of Telecom companies that only have business because they are exempt from LNP (Local number portability) and can hold customers hostage.

    • RE: Cisco vs Pfsense preformance for VPN

So in our limited testing so far.. we've about tripled the throughput of the VPN by going away from the Cisco routers (Which was costing us tens of thousands in user licensing (Per year) for the vpn on top of the router and security bundle costs. )

Still need to setup the failover but so far it's been great. And since the IKEV2 can be fully deployed with a GPO we add them to the VPN AD group and everything from the root CA, to the vpn profile and access via NPS/Radius is all done with a single step.

email goes over an unencrypted network

Um, you do realize the majority of email is encrypted in transit (SSL).. just not at rest. There are very few providers not supporting encryption in transit now. If your server is setup for it, it will negotiate

If HIPAA got the hell out of the way, I'd say dump faxing for email ASAP! because it has so many advantages. But it's simply not allowed.

Yes it is. It absolutely is. It's just that fax IS allowed by tradition and so people leverage the excuse to be insecure because, in the end, that was their hope.

HIPAA in no way prohibits email, actually it specifically allows electronic communications. And for that matter you can use an online secure communication portal, that's what most medical offices around here have. They aren't faxing much

Nope. I was told that it would happen during my hiring process

That's bait and switch and it's illegal to do that for job offers. though it happens a lot.

Sadly that is only at a per user level.

So if a different user logs in, then logs out.. those setting you made on the first user don't apply, until they log back in and then out.

Do it with a GPO thats what we do, we don't "disable" them just set the computer not to do it automaticly, and not to allow the user to unless they are on battery. It's still part of the power plans like always.

      @Dashrender said

Tapping a phone line once it reaches a neighborhood hub is anything is trival I'm guessing. But the main point that I want to point out here is that tapping a phoneline requires physical access to something, somewhere in the path to make happen. This requirement makes the cost significantly higher than trying to get access to say email, through the previously mentioned malware attack.

Pretty easy to get access to phone lines if you are in any sort of business complex.

Even if you are not. In rural areas it is especially easy to tap lines. There is even equipment that allows you to tap the lines without climbing the poles, you can do it, touchless, from the ground!

Our buliding here is in a rural area.. but because we are the biggest company around Verizon brought the whole trunk of lines multiplex in to our buliding incase we need all of them we would have them.. there are resturants, stores, and urgent medical care centers all around us. all of their analog lines both phone and fax come into our building and we could listen in from the NID
