    • RE: Kvm network troubleshooting

      @scottalanmiller

This is actually a very funny situation. This person is the guy that is preceding me in my old work.

He never got personal hand over from me (he got hired 2-3 months after i left, so only documented handover), and they hired Windows specialist and I deploy mostly Linux stuff, so god be with him.

I told him to ask his management since we are in the same town for official hand over but he is trying to learn via practice in production environment.

I had my reasons to deploy KVM, and sadly its not very familiar for him, so expect alot of posts/topics.

It is funny how he find Mangolassi and became member here, I guess we are the only 2 Jordanians in ML.

Regardless please man try to setup centos KVM in home lab (it is alot easier than you think, and check topics here about it), and get the basics covered and dont change stuff in Prod, the first issue you posted is cause of that, so learn it at home or replace it, it hosts 5-6 VMs. We are here to help ofcourse, but changing stuff in production and causing time out will get you in trouble with management.

Guys can KVM qcow2 images be converted in something Windows HyperV can use ?

cockpit works on port 9090, and editing port on the VM should not change cockpit web interface, cause VMs takes another IP than the hypervisor KVM machine. check cockpit service

      systemctl status cockpit
      systemctl status cockpit.socket

    • RE: Chrome updates - breaks shit.

@Dashrender said in Chrome updates - breaks shit.:

Our EHR which is a browser only based EHR contantly breaks when Chrome does updates.

Anyone else use web apps that break all the time because of browser updates?

Sadly - as a total non developer, I have no idea if this is Chrome just changing shit that requires devs to constantly update their site/apps to work with Chrome OR the apps themselves are just that poorly written that they break when Chrome updates OR my app dev is using such rare stuff in Chrome that that rare stuff is constantly being removed, etc, etc.

      It's a constant battle.

In fact it's so bad that the EHR company is making their own Chromium based "desktop app" that won't be updated unless the vendor wants to update it. I suppose as long as this 'app' is really locked down and nothing else can invoke it to take advantages of discovered Chromium flaws, then this might be a doable setup. The app can also be locked down (by the vendor) to only be used to access the EHR system, making it less of an issue being updated less frequently.

      Thoughts, opinions, etc?

We suffered same issue we had Bahmni EMR, and Google chrome change log was lacking serverly with stuff like
      many bugs fixes and enhacnemnts

We suffered from issues due to under the hood change many times, like the ability to make only 6 connections to SSL https socket thing

      https://stackoverflow.com/questions/32697909/how-to-solve-chromes-6-connection-limit-when-using-xhr-polling

You dont need Chromuim app, just use this
      https://chromium.woolyss.com/

Or run linux and saltstack and run command to upgrade chrome when it is tested . Thats what we did . sadly we didnt manage moving all to Linux cause of the dam MS Office.

ALso run some users or yourself on the Chrome BEta, to catch issues prior

@RandyBlevins said in Preparing to land that dream job:

I'm getting very close to 15 years in IT. I've steadily worked my way up and have job hopped every 3-4 years. I am in the IT security side which has really ramped up in the past 3-4 years.

Opportunities for major increases have presented themselves a couple times without me looking and have promised considerable increases like 35-45%. In two cases, location has kept me from pursuing these positions. I was able to decline one position after going through all the hoops, and the other position never got the go ahead from HR. The second company has asked me to wait till March as they intend to open it.

Neither of these jobs have the location I want, and a third opportunity has presented itself again not in the location I want. I do feel like I am gaining valuable insights by doing these interviews.

I guess I just want some discussion here, but my question is something like this... How do you prep for that dream job? How many interviews do you do for practice, how hard do you look? Do you let it come to you?

First you have to wake up and realize , that there are no such something as dream job. Except starting your own business.

All jobs sucks man, your literally wasting your life that you can spend outside, except if you live in Canada where it is -30c outside.

I am planning on April-May and stay one year, I dont know how nor what nor where , but at least in Canada you have edibles .

Sounds like cars in Canada is way too complex.

Cars in Jordan is 200% taxed, so if the car costs 9000 you pay 18000 JOD. The cost of new hyundai car here is 15k JOD which is 20K $

That is just insane. At least the system is simple, though.

see that is why we will never open up, the concept of seeing other people and how they live means change, and change here means chairs needs to be moved and shuffled and every chair has cost, usually cost starts with 10,000 lives and upwards. 6-7 years ago there was country next to us called Syria, it was better that us in every single way, people wanted change, now it is iran/turkey/russia/US/israel playground and 100 years behind.

How is things for you ? i think i might also move in couple of months to Manitoba as well. What advice can you give me ? I will stay a year or so.

      How is transportation there ?

First of all, you have to get an apartment that has nearby bus stop and has buses that pass by time to time. You don't want to stay outside for 30mins in a -40C temperature. Some bus stops has corridors, some has heaters on the bench but most of them doesn't have. I'm lucky that I can see the upcoming bus from my apartment so I wait inside the building and I only ride 1 bus going to work. I suggest to get a car immediately once you get here.

Another thing is, invest on clothing! That's very important. It will benefit you in the long run.

      Thanks,
I dont think we can get any good clothing for winter as the ones they sell there. I looked online and it seems used cars are cheap in Canada, can you really get one for only 1000 CAD ?
