Wow it feels great to get something small when you work extra hours on a difficult issue. My boss just gave me a card and a $25 Visa Gift Card. He said I know it isn't what your time was worth, but I wanted to give you something for your hard work.
It makes a difference when you get noticed for doing hard work. Awesome job.

That's cool, but that really says something about the company too. Funds for things like this should be there for managers - it's doesn't need to be thousands of dollars (unless you have a ton of employees), but a few hundred a year or so would probably cover it.

The company has bought thank you cards and gift cards for me before. I bet they probably would have done it this time, but my boss wanted to show his own appreciation.
