Fedora 33 upgrade time
-
As mentioned in the other thread, Fedora 33 is now available.
Like always, the process is straightforward.
sudo su - dnf upgrade --refresh -y dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade -y dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=33 -y dnf system-upgrade reboot
Or on a single line (after you switch to root, because no one logs in as root right?)
sudo su - dnf upgrade --refresh -y && dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade -y && dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=33 -y && dnf system-upgrade reboot
-
Laptop upgrade running.

Quick punch the screen, there's a Jared on it!
-
Had to switch back to Cinnamon from Deepin - dock issues!
-
After upgrading I can't connect remotely via SSH. Console is fine, so I know that password works... not sure what changed.
-
Only had a chance for a few today, but I have a long night of work scheduled so... ploughing ahead.

I am giving Gnome (the default) a go. Been a few weeks now on my laptop.
A couple of Gnome plugins related to the status bar and I’m good to go.
I’ve worked out the only major issue I found so far. Which was really not major. Just Flameshot would not work right.

I'm using it these days, too. Still "prefer" Cinnamon, but mostly I think that is just a natural dislike of change.

I thought you've always been a Cinnamon guy!
I guess I can always check out Gnome, doesn't hurt! -

My experience with Flameshot on Gnome is that it works great after installing the Kstatusnotifieritem/appindicator support plugin and if you use Xorg instead Wayland display server.

I feel your pain with Flameshot, but I've got to where I just use the built-in screenshot utility for Gnome.

I need the built in editing options. I do a lot of markup as I screenshot.

As long as you switch to Xorg it works fine. I do not use any plugin. I just make a hotkey with the command
flameshot gui

I liked Cinnamon the most of the spins when I first tested out Fedora.
Because of that I started with Korora.
But the current Gnome is clean, and with two plugins it works well for me.

Which two plugins make it work well for you?

Is there a reason for the Fedora preference?
s it more stable than CentOS, Debian, or Ubuntu?
Do you use it mixed with other OS's as to what each situation calls for?

How many desktops do you have? Do you switch desktops based on each situation?

Sorry I meant server set ups.
