I don't want that to sound like the sub-category rule system is bad. It's just a departure and going to cause confusion and bring some new challenges that I think have not been thought through. But I confirmed it with the powers that be earlier in the week and they confirmed that those groups are allowed to create their own cultures and ecosystems, so it is what it is. But it does mean that certain aspects of IT discussion are not an option there now, only Q&A in those categories. Over time, I suspect more and more will move to this.

So one of the better IT forums just put in place rules that will eventually see the real solutions pushed aside in favor of sales supplied solutions if the example we have today is any indication. Wonder where I could find a good alternative?

They are very aware that it is a new direction and a lot of people feel that the Q&A approach is more what they want. Nothing wrong with that, but the discussions still need a place to exist. In many ways it's good, SW kind of recognizes that ML is the discussion site and that SF is the Q&A site and SW is going for something in the middle now, adjusting after the market has settled a little.

RAID 0 and can't afford down time, asking if a NAS is a good backup target.
Um... RAID 0 man, even a bad sector and your data is gone. . . .
-
What 2Tb and 1TB drives are best for backup device
Um... . . . NAS level drives would be a great place to look, looking at "desktop" or "gaming" lines is just ridiculous and makes no sense.

Has logged into a ton of servers over several years, and has never signed out. . . . transitioning into a new position and wants to find where he's logged in. . . .
WTF

Gets even better, he's signed into 10-60 servers. . . . and is transitioning to Business Analyst.. . . um fired!

Polar opposite of what this topic is for, but god damn thank you for asking!

This firewall survey popped back up in my feed today. Still can't believe the amount of money people just throw around, trying to understand why is easy at least.

Needs to know if he should use RAID5 or RAID10 either as a physical or VM. . . . Um what. . .

I feel like y'all really just put your dicks in the pencil sharpener responding to stuff like that.
Reminds me of self flagellation ceremonies
It's nice to help people but wtf are you going to teach them in a paragraph that will make up for them lacking the experience needed to get that kinda thing right.

The ultimate goal is to make them question what they are doing... Now often times that leads to a lot of discussion about this and that, when they really should be talking about the other...

I get that... but I can't help but think that it's still weaponizing ignorance

I see the point you're going for now, lol. I think you may be on to something there.

Dumb people.. . . .
I know this comes up everyone once in a while, but why do you need ransomware to test with.
-
1 SSD Per VM. . . really, why hasn't anyone else come up with this...
Create a bunch of tiny raid 1 ssd arrays on your NAS to get IOPS to the moon!
Did SW just let out? Because it seems like things are starting to peak!

@DustinB3403 no. One session round left that starts in 25 minute so.

So he's installed Windows Server 2000, to support a million dollar printer from the 90's, and the software is 16-bit and doesn't seem to work on XP.
Um wtf is wrong with this, anyone else see the issue?

It's on the wrong IRQ?

Nope, ACPI for Win2K, no more IRQ conflicts.
Without knowing how it's doing what it's doing, could be tons of reasons. Especially with very little changing between 2K and 2K3/XP. Probably don't know deep Winders stuff.
