@WrCombs okay I'm done with the topic. It's making my head hurt lol.
and that is the Gas Stations in the local area.
Wanna hear more?
NO? okay well..we didn't get clock in clock out lunch breaks and they said because "we are a gas station, and legally as this type of business, we are able to withhold your break. " which i talked to a lawyer, and since they stated it up front in the interview, in the training and before you finished the application process they could actually do that legally here in Nebraska.
Couldn't sit down anywhere. there was no sitting involved. you were required to stand all day, regardless of what was going on.
If you were a clerk you were required to work in the kitchen at least 20 hours a week, and had a daily list of assignments that needed to be complete before you could leave, if someone called in and there was no coverage, youd be stuck running the kitchen and floor by yourself, most times you only got 2 clerks and an assistant manager running the stores. They ran you down and stressed you out for (at the time I started 8.25/hr) about 10/hr.
You got bonuses based on Secret Shoppers, if you failed you'd get the report and a meeting from the DM to walk your store within 24 hrs of receiving the report. Is that $10/hr for an adult worker?
The business would be taken to court for underpaying / exploiting workers here.
LOL
Minimum wage is $9/hr in our state, there would be no courts being bothered here.
There is no wage minimum difference for adults versus children. There are some jobs where the minimum wage is lower - waitressing is one, but the expectation is that tips make up the difference to get to minimum wage. Most of the US has lower wage options for children. Not for normal jobs, but for jobs that only kids do.
really? like what?
IIRC there are a few jobs where kids are allowed to legally work, like a farm hand (drive a truck etc) that is allowed to be paid at a lower rate.
Bussers and Dishwashers can Start at 14 with a work permit for lower wage than minimum wage.
what's a Busser?
table busser?
Buss Boy = In the US we have them to pick up the dirty plates and cups and clean tables at busy restaurants, Their Job is to make sure tables stay clean after guests leave to give the servers more Time to take care of other Guests.Oh, ok, thanks.

Yuck... just got a bunch of equipment back from a guy who got fired... who was out with pink eye a couple of weeks before he got fired. Glad I keep rubbing alcohol at my desk. Too bad I'm out of nitrile gloves.
That's lovely. . . I've never had to deal with that myself fortunately.
I once had someone hand me their computer and then sneeze on it right as they were passing it to me though. . . that was gross.
I would have purposely dropped that computer right on their foot, and then make them sanitize it.
Yeah I really wanted too. . . I rubbed the laptop down with rubbing alcohol and told them to leave.
you guys are soft, you should try working in schools, everthing is covered with slime & goo & snot and stuff that sticks. Tables, desks, ipads, laptops, screens, mice.
And then there's the stuff the kids leave on the equipment.
I worked in educational IT for a couple of weeks... ran out screaming, will NEVER do that again.
Yep. I reckon the next harshest thing for IT gear is warfare. Kids destroy everything, it total chaos most of the time.
You're supporting a user base that just doesn't care about the gear they use, they stand on it, sneeze on it, cry on it, eat off it.
AND THEN THEY INTRODUCE BYOD!

When I worked those kinds of jobs, the motivated almost always get offered loads of overtime, and the lazy almost always get chances to fall way below 40 hours a week. I worked hotel overnights to jump start my IT career and got 50-60 hours every week, on the overnight, with all the extra hours being from other shifts that just didn't bother to come in on time or wanted someone to cover last second.
As a "near minimum wage" earner, even in NY, I was able to have quite a nice apartment and an acceptable car.
I have friends in Texas that make $9/hr and get under 40 hours a week and manage to live in a decent apartment, in a decent area, without any roommates! The US is pretty cheap.
Yeah, I was in a position like that - IT helpdesk - as much as it was at night. But for the last 2 years I was in that position I actually worked closer to double shifts daily. My OT was insane!
I think most people, to really get somewhere, have to have this kind of moment in their lives. The work your ass off "break through the barrier" time.
I think you're right. It gives you a leg up financially and if you're lucky also professionally.

OH YEAH!!!! Today is the 50th anniversary of the release of the master blueprint of all that is metal.... Black Sabbath's 1st, self titled album. Still one of the greatest rock records of all time, besides being ubiquitously influential on all that is heavy to this day.

I did a good one today - Backed up my PC to an internal 1Tb drive so I could reinstall W10 (on the same SSD). Realized I formatted the 1Tb drive when going through the install wizard. No files to move back to my fresh PC. Oops. Luckily, I have another backup on an external drive.

Keeping an eye on the roads for work. Lots of closed roads due to flooding.
Should be ok if it doesn't rain much until the morning
