@mary lost power. Oh the joys of living in NY.
I never lose power, so your experiences with losing power in NY have to be related to being in rural locations or lack of payment type issues.
When I was on NYSEG we lost power once in 3 years... now that I'm on a rural Coop we lose power at least once a month.

So a "I moved to a location that is more rural and now I'm dealing with rural issues". Makes complete sense to me.
I live in Brighton NY, and haven't lost power in a very long time, and the times that we "lose power" it's a power blip at most and things are back within seconds to minutes. Definitely not long a duration like @scottalanmiller has repeated as being the norm for NY.

I'm agreeing with you. NYSEG is actually a really good utility. I think it's the small Coops that dot the rural landscape that are the issue.

With NYSEG?
No, with a software vendor that likes to say that they don't run on Linux when obviously they do.

Is the vendor Microsoft?

Playing with ansible, for possible deployment at work to administer our user workstations.

ugh. we have a federal election coming up. we can choose between a wet sponge sitting in a bucket of lard or a discarded cigarette butt floating in a polluted creek.

Going to be cert based right? SSH will need to be open. That's one of the reasons I went with SaltStack, along with better performance.

More KVM stuff. Got a bit confused on networking but think i've got a solution in place now that works

I'm going to get in a little bit of trouble today. . .
I had 3 am work calls come in that I did not wake up to.
got one voicemail from my boss telling me I gotta wake up for these.
Woke up for the 5 am call from the same site and it was fixed..
happy Hump Day.

Uhm, people have to sleep at some point. You're not a 24/7/365 machine. Even when we're on call, between 10pm and 5:30am, we're off the hook. (Pun intended.)

one would think, everyone gets 24 phone support..
Maintenance ends at 10:00pm Saturdays..
I'm sure I'll get talked to about it today, and I'll use the only excuse I have.
Im human. -

Im human.Don't forget to bring up the "If I'm expected to answer my phone at all hours, then legally, I must be paid to work for all hours that I'm expected to be available. So why are you talking to me about this before getting legal matters handled through HR?"
