In bed here.
That seems to be a reasonable hour for you, ha ha. I'm awake already, and patched 22 servers.
And... It all went down hill from there.
Thank God Tomorrow is Friday... Jeez... (y'all might want to read fast, this could take a while).
So anyhow, I get done patching systems and get a phone call from my wife. She made a bad turn and hopped the curb, but still managed to drop our kid off at day care. The front tire was completely flat. I rush off to rescue my wife so she could make it back home. I get there... get the car jack out and set, then try to break the lug nuts loose. The )&*@#$&#@$ luck wrench that CAME WITH THE CAR doesn't even fit over the lug nuts.
No sweat. After ranting about that for a few minutes, I get the 4-way lug wrench out of my truck and find the one that fits... almost. It's just a hair too big and spins round and round on the lug nut without even touching it. I call a tow truck and he comes out with a look on his face that says WTF. (I feel better, knowing that I'm now slightly less of an idiot).
He gets the donut (spare tire) on for me and then points out that my back tire has a golf ball sized lump in it now too. Again... no big deal. I go to Walmart (where I've always taken the car to have the oil changed and tires rotated, etc). On my way to Walmart, a lady flags me down to say I have no working brake lights. One of them was out already and I was going to get it fixed today since I had the time. Tell the folks at Walmart what happened and they cry with me due to the fact my tires weren't covered by the hazard warranty since my wife hit a curb, not an actual road hazard.
It's also time to get the oil changed.... so... 2 new tires and an oil change later, I'm getting ready to leave Walmart. Brake lights are still out. *sigh* Guys at Walmart tell me that they don't know how to change the brake lights and recommend somebody else in town. Somebody else in town recommends me to another car shop with the same name, but run by a completely different person. $5 and 15 minutes later, I have all my brake lights working.
A whole day was taken to get the car looked at because my wife had a flat and I couldn't get the )&#@$)#@ tire off.
I guess having all that work done not so bad because we had to go to Atlanta today for a Doc Appointment... Left at 10am and got back at 8pm... Can I just skip to the weekend already?

Had ground beef and shredded chicken burritos with a pacifico from fuzzy tacos

@dafyre Days like make me feel that I must have to do all that stuff for some hyper galactic reason, maybe to root me back into the real world somehow, I dunno.
At least it's all over now, roll on Saturday. -

Ha ha ha. That's kinda the way I felt when it all piled up like that. For once, though, we had something unexpected come up and the bank didn't laugh at me when I paid for it.

Yeah. It could definitely have been worse. The worst part of the whole ordeal aside from my wallet screaming in pain was trying to figure out what kind of an idiot I was to not be able to get the tire off, lol.

This will sound super-n00bish, but oh well.
$args
in PowerShell has changed my life. That is all. Continue with your regularly scheduled ML trolling, lurking, and posting. How so?
I really only ever used it to check for extra arguments/parameters in my functions / scripts to output an error if the
$args.count
is higher than it should be, for example. What are you using it for?
I'm working on a script right now that will make use of
start-job
and using$args
lets me pass the value of a variable between scopes. In this case, I'd be passing a value from earlier in the script into thestart-job
scriptblock.Man, it took me forever to figure out how to do something similar!
You could just set the
-scope
of the variable to global...I've never used
-scope
when defining a variable. I'll have to try that out.Me either, lol. Time to research that tip.
That's if you use the
Set-Variable
cmdlet, where you would use-Scope
.You can also use
$<scope>:variable
. For example:$script:userName = "john.smith"
$global:userName = "john.smith"
