What Are You Doing Right Now
-
Anyways, I'm trying to drink my coffee and wake up.
I'm a grouch today, woke up early because of the dog, and been in a bad mood since.

This is what a snow day looks like.... not a flake in sight,...
Sigh
We got a light dusting last night. Nothing too bad maybe .5-1".
The forecast has us getting something like 2-4",.. but it hasn't even started yet.
This is the current radar - but - again,.. nothing is falling.
They gave you a snow day for 2-4"? Wow.
This isn't a comparison to NY - but in some areas the terrain is pretty varied - hills and curves and such. We've had buses slid off the road on less.

I make it easy on people - I stay in a bad mood,.. no more guessing.

No doubt, right? We wouldn't get a snow day for less than 8+ in a single snowfall. And around here, they normally wait for the last min before deciding.
-
The only time we get snow days around here is if the windchill falls below -15.
-
I saw a great bumper sticker this morning... "Keep Thor in Thursday!"

The school district here sets it officially at a Wind Chill Warning as defined by the NWS, which means -30 F wind chills. A Wind Chill Advisory (-20 F) is school on, but an excused absence is marked if you keep your child home.

Oh man, I want that one now.
-
I don't get the "Keep Thor in Thursday!"
What am I missing?

That's where the name of the day came from... "Thor's Day" became "Thursday".

It's one of the few that remain in the English translation.
Monday is Moon Day from Luna
Tuesday is Mar's Day (God of War) in most European languages.
Wednesday is Woden's Day mispronounced -
Woden is the Old English form of Odin. So Wednesday is the god Odin's Day. Odin in Norse Mythology maps to Mercury and that's the name for the day in Latin. So you can think of it as Mercury's or Odin's Day. Same diety, just Latin vs. Germanic naming.

Ugh. Today is not a great day.

Everything okay?
Co-worker was let go and no one was told. I assumed he was on vacation. From what I see of the situation he either 1. Wasn't doing a good job, which if this is the case why was he here for over a year. This is why there is a trial period. The fact that he made it through his trial period tells me his quality of work was good enough to retain employment. or 2. Something happened that I'm unaware of. 2 is very unlikely. He was a very nice and well liked here by everyone. His knowledge was on the lower end, but you can always teach. I just don't get why something like this would've happened and then why they wouldn't bring it up to us. I think it's a common courtesy but also a security concern. If he came here and tried to gain access to the server room he probably could just because we thought he worked here.
I just feel weird about the situation. I like transparency.
-
That is weird that all staff in some way wouldn't be notified about him no longer being employed there.
-
Yeah. I think you should clarify the situation to the point where your other employees understand that this company isn't battle royale and you don't need to worry about your position but also not specific enough to respect the guy's privacy.
