Had our yearly company celebration and i got the best employee of the year award!
a 40" samsung LED smart TV. Those non stop latenight & weekends paid off!
Did they really? giving up your personal time for a 40" TV?
Congrats on being recognized just the same.
Well, that is at least better than ending up in a closet, everyone least bothered about you and just use you to be yelled at when there is an issue and only then you exist in this world! Its not that giving up my personal time for a 40" TV and surely i havent worked hard for that either. It feels good that some of this has been seen by the management and they show it some way and give you something as a token of appreciation. Who doesnt want to get something like that!

Just jaded old men like @Dashrender

The prep work it takes for me to go on vacation almost makes it not even worth it. Ugh.

damn I am jaded today!
having to install an app on a phone because someone is worried that the end user (who owns the phone) can't do it themselves - holy shit there is no expectation here what so ever - it's lame when management is covering for them so badly!

Employee of the year! It would be fun if this happens every month!

Employee of the year? I'd expect at least a 60-65" 4K for that...

I would much more appreciate a raise.

What's a raise? I've never heard of that. Do you have documentation on it?

They give us employee of the year here so they don't have to give raises. I'm not kidding. I told my boss if I ever get employee of the year I'm going to be very offended

That's why all the good advice I've seen is to change jobs. The promotions rarely happen internally, no matter what management says.

Pretty much this. I've only seen two significant raises in my life and that was when I switched jobs.

We get raises and holiday bonuses here. There has never been an "employee of the year" here, but we can buy nice TVs w/ those bonuses...

That sounds fair. Here they give mostly no raises but if they do it's across the board to everyone. So the guy that does nothing gets the same raise as the guy who kills himself working. It's counter intuitive.
