And I sent a follow up email about how they had blown us off and never followed up or dealt with anything. Just now.

Just noticed a scam security product vendor advertise that their customer, Chaplain College, is using their products as part of their "cyber security" initiative. Should we tell them that by using their product that deactivates Windows patching (and then reports it as being current so that no one knows) they didn't just make the college completely vulnerable, but are literally advertising them as a target!
I want this here so that when they get hacked I can show that everyone was aware publicly that they had disabled all patching AND notification on their network, AND paid to do so, AND paid for scam AV, while disabling Defender! The amount of "we just announced to everyone that we are clueless, corrupt, and disabled all of our default MS security" is just crazy.
And they posted a picture of the system admin taking "credit" for this massive blunder.

Same vendor just exposed the city of Vidalia, LA for doing the same thing... making it public that their police, fire and other services specifically are exposed and vulnerable to hacking. This vendor's feed is like a public "who is easy to hack by script kiddies" bulletin board.

There is only one Vidalia. That's Vidalia, GA

I got a new job around 6 months ago. I'm now a network engineer, and like the job/coworkers/manager.

I've been meaning to ask how your setup is going.
Have you been able to get out with it lately? -

Have you been able to get out with it lately? It's going well now. My main interest is astrophotography, and with what I had, my biggest limiting factor was tracking (mount/tripod). I don't have a big aperture scope, so of course that doesn't help, but it's way more than enough to fulfill my needs with the proper foundation.
The camera I have is absolutely amazing, I'd get it again. The downside is compatibility with numerous astrophotography tools (as well as the fact it's not a dedicated astrophotography camera). It's working mostly fine on Linux (Astroberry rPi), thankfully, but still has it quirks. We use the camera for regular photography all the time so it's definitely worth it aside from that. Maybe I'll get a cheap ZWO sometime in the future.
But yeah, it's going well now... has been cloudy literally for the past few weeks straight until clear two nights ago and tonight, maybe tomorrow night will be okay (we'll see), but after that more clouds. Not exactly normal for here at this time, but whatever. I'll make the best of it one way or another.

I've only been here about 2 months - I stayed at that previous company 5 years too long
-
I’m still looking,… but the dynamic has now changed. Not the work though… the Director is leaving so we will see how management absorbs the responsibility or finds a replacement ..
-
I'm about 6 months in, and am starting the process of looking. I underestimated how rough the commute for the 3 on-prem / 2 remote schedule would be.
-
Morning all, had early morning customer calls. I'm up and working way too early. But at least the coffee is already here.

How is everyone today?

Has been a long day. I feel like I've not been productive at all... but I did manage to get a bash backup script to work nicely on a couple of servers.
tar /var/www
tar /etc
mysqldump
send it to file server.Even better, I fixed it so that it can simply be copied to any of our servers that are setup right and can be run and all the things happen... it's like magic, lol.
So much other stuff I needed to do, but that called out to me today.
