      Sales is REALLY simple.

      1. You have to have something to sell.
      2. You convince someone to buy it that wasn't going to buy it on their own.
      3. You charge more than it would cost without needing to pay a sales person.

That's it. It is step 1 we keep saying you need to think about.

Since before I started we've been using Cisco everything, So probably only use Cisco.
the sales man brought them up because that's what Software vendor suggests we use for that.

the sales guy for my company is looking at what's out there.

Is your sales guys the person who sells Cisco equipment? If not why in the fuck is he looking at technology purchase options for the business?

Is he also the CIO for your business?

he sells what we have. Right now we dont have any Ap's in the office and is looking for this new software.
He sales what's in the office to sell.

Yeah, and you can't get Ubiquiti, which is what I have been saying. SO... now that we are getting to the goal of "what he can sell", I bet you'll find that since he can't sell Ubiquiti, but can sell Cisco, that that is what will matter to him.

uh sure, I guess I dont understand sales in any way.

To sell something, you have to have a right to sell it. You can't just sell something you don't own!

And if they did own the AP's it means they'd have purchased them at cost and have to apply a Markup on them in order to make a profit.

Whereas Cisco has undisclosed pricing for their resellers. So something that is $500 list to everyday purchasers is $120 to a reseller.

Using it, yes. But selling it is the problem. You'd have to sell it as used, because you'd have to buy it, be the end customer, then sell it. Can cause all kinds of issues, like with warranties and stocking and accounting.

Right, you can sell Meraki below MSRP and still make profit. Ubiquiti you can't. And the whole "you have to own it before it goes to the customer" piece can be a mess for accountants who have to purchase, then sell, that stuff.

Trying to convince the sales man to go with Unifi AP's instead of the Cisco Meraki MR33 for another new software they have added to our list.

Speaking of which, should be receiving my new Unifi nanoHD's today to replace the old AP LR (non-AC).

Well well, look who just arrived...

They sell direct from the website, parties like Amazon and CDW are just additional channels on which they sell their goods.

Nothing is from a 3rd party. There is no van in a back of an alley.

Exactly. Ubiquiti doesn't give anyone short of giant national warehouses a reseller license. So while it is great gear that consultants can get easily (from Amazon, PCM INgram Micro... anyone) it's not something that sales people want to deal with because they can't resell it like other gear, and they can't get reseller discounts on it, and they can't represent Ubiquiti to the customer. So it breaks the "sales process" and would likely be of no interest to someone paid out of a mechanism that doesn't exist here.

Yes, I said that they did initially, but only insanely large, national ones. The scale that you have to be at to qualify is crazy.

                                        Sales is REALLY simple.

                                        1. You have to have something to sell.
                                        2. You convince someone to buy it that wasn't going to buy it on their own.
                                        3. You charge more than it would cost without needing to pay a sales person.

That's it. It is step 1 we keep saying you need to think about.

Using it, yes. But selling it is the problem. You'd have to sell it as used, because you'd have to buy it, be the end customer, then sell it. Can cause all kinds of issues, like with warranties and stocking and accounting.

Ok. So we can use it but we cant sell it. Got it.

You can sell it, but it must legally be sold as "Used - never opened" because you aren't a licensed reseller! SINCE UBIQUITI DOESN'T USE RESELLERS

                                        Do not yell at me.
I understand what you are saying .
                                        ffs

Certainly doesn't seem like it, have you had enough coffee this morning?
