I use CloneZilla for imaging when possible, but to do any type of imaging with Sysprep on OEM devices you will need at least one VL license to do imaging.
No one is questioning the licensing. this has nothing to do with the question of how to do it.
Don't confuse things.
It's a valid and relevant point. The whole point of this "discussion" is to discuss all aspects relating to this... and licensing is definitely related to Win10 and imaging.
No, and I just quoted the first post a bit ago.. It is specifically about the tools.

But you all hung the fuck up on licensing and have mentioned no tools other than @DustinB3403 mentioning FOG and myself mentioning CloneZilla. -

Simple and quick and easy to maintain.

You can use a laptop, desktop or a server.

That isn't how I took it, but you could use any device, but a server setup has to be present to serve the images.

Yes, I like it more than FOG (though, I haven't used FOG yet) because I'm under the impression FOG is clone-based imaging only.
I'd use FOG over MDT if all the devices were the same and get the same software. But I could be wrong about FOG.
MDT is highly flexible and my impression of FOG is that it's not.

I've used two that have been mentioned
The Fog method.
Created a machine, updated, drivers, them sysprep. Imaged that to the FOG server then booted via network boot and deployed the image to the client.Also CloneZilla.
Again build a PC/VM update, drivers, Sysprep then store the image on USB/Network and deploy that to the new machine. -

I'd use FOG over MDT if all the devices were the same or very few. But I could be wrong about FOG.
MDT is highly flexible and my impression of FOG is that it's not.
So Fog is Imaged based (what is being discussed) but with very little changes to your golden image, can you make it a more agnostic image.

I had an agnostic golden Windows 10 image setup with just a folder full of drivers for 4 different system models. To have the system go and check that directory for drivers you simply have to add a system directory and upon first start up the computer will install the drivers required.
Was super simple, nothing difficult in any way and made my life so much easier than having to go and find drivers after the fact.

If you use a USB or DVD to deploy the image onto the target, it's still a clone of a golden image. . .

I take it you've never used WDS or MDT... or at least not past 4% of their capabilities. I'd consider 4% of the MDT capabilities to consist of having a golden image and deploying it. There's still so much more.

I do like using task sequences with a golden image.

I would think that Ansible and SaltStack are out since they typically don't have tie in to the Windows 10 OS AFAIK. Maybe a FOG server?
They don't image, either. They would be the layer on top of imaging.

Can be run on anything. Raspberry Pi, desktop, server, etc.
