Vendors used to actually sell stuff that claimed this. It was pushed on television.

I remember... They we're really big around Windows 95 Era. Turn unused hard disk space into ram.

I have sent this out a lot this year. I am careful to remind friends and family to backup their extra RAM to a USB drive in case they need to reload their system.
