What Are You Doing Right Now

@RojoLoco Ha! Doing non-IT tasks right now anyway (logging purchases and downloading and printing invoices) -- not much brain power needed.
You may not have any left for real IT tasks if you keep watching/listening to the news! Nothing there but sorrow and lies. Best decision I ever made was to stop following the news and politics.

Walking home from the post office. The 9yo forgot her Suica (train pass) at home.

How long will it take for the post to arrive?

Just saw some random guy laying in our hallway, watching TV on his phone. I went back to get a picture and mess with him, but he was gone.

I win! CEO sticker shock from our last two Windstream bills has resulted me in having a new drop-everything project, which is returning to my old, derailed project of Get-us-a-VoIP-solution-that-doesn't-have-a-T1-and-doesn't-restrict-us-to-Altigen-hardware.

I bet he signed a big contract that has him locked in, though.

These guys are still using software that was discontinued and was known that it would break four years ago. Seems like a lot of time to not have bothered to find another solution yet.

@scottalanmiller Actually no. We're out of a contract (learned this when I first started the VoIP project a year ago).

He didn't sign one to get the new service? How is there sticker shock on something you've had so long?
-
@scottalanmiller Apparently toll-free and long-distance usage has spiked in the last two months (according to the bill), which increased the total cost.

Could be. I'm sure (even though I don't know how to do it) this Altigen system can probably be easily compromised. We've needed to get off of this for a while, so I'm seeing this as an opportunity.

I would check those phone records. that's the likely culprit. And it could be Windstream faking the calls. We've had carrier do that.

After hearing the stories about the state of most phone service providers, it would not surprise me at all to get random junk showing up on bills that shouldn't be there.

We had a customer hit for over $10K of made up charges on one bill one time.

The phone bills are so archaic and written in hieroglyphs that you often can't make out what is actually a usage charge vs a service charge.
