I'm on a huge foodie change at the moment.

The biggest change I've made is, getting up earlier, having a substantial breakfast and I already feel way better have 3 weeks of that, more awake/energetic during the day, more productive.

I'm the opposite. Breakfast makes me tired all day. And hungry too, so much more hungry when I eat breakfast.

Breakfast kickstarts metabolism, no matter what it is, so the hunger is natural. Sugary breakfast makes me instantly tired and hungry, but fiber, protein, and carbs will carry me through lunch. Breakfast should be a good 400 calories to really count.

Someone needs to hack that metabolism-thingy. Or maybe remove it from the repo.

      @Dashrender said in 10" HDMI 1080P displays:

Honestly I have no idea in the TV space.

When you hook up a 1366 x 768 monitor to a PC, the video card knows the resolution of the monitor and attempts to us only that.

I don't know if TVs work the same way or not. I want to make sure that my new TV will be displaying at it's best resolution possible, even if a lower res one is attached to the second output.

TVs and monitors store their possibile resolutions in a small IC and your PC will query this (keyword is EDID).

Anyway, most modern TVs and monitors support some form of upscaling, thus they are calculating the rest of the picture. If your screen doesn't support that, you can:

      • Place an upscaling device in front (Denon AV receivers for example are doing a good job here). Something else (just an example): http://www.amazon.com/Panlong-PL-SH2H-Converter-Upscaler-Consoles/dp/B00D86UYBS
      • Upscale the content on the video source. Relatively easy with a PC, hard with something like an old video cam.

You could even DIY, but that requires some knowledge. What is the exact use case / purpose? Digital (HDMI) or analog source?

    • RE: What Are You Doing Right Now

Right now: Building a system to stream the desktop from Raspberry Pi2 #1 to Pi2 #2 for a fair using VNC. Pi #2 will be attached to some large screen while Pi #1 does some presentation on the official Raspberry Pi 7" touchscreen. There will be a little distance (a few meters) between both.

Why no HDMI wireless repeater? You can render to both (DSI and HDMI) just fine, but not on X on a Pi AFAIK. There's just a single framebuffer [1, 2, 3, 4]. That's why I had to fetch a stream from the desktop πŸ˜‰ Transfer via VNC over Ad-Hoc-Wifi or CAT 6a.

As far as I understood, Jared's initial statement was a bit misleading. He works for 42 hours and can split that in any way he likes, which is ok. I've worked both ways and both have their pros and cons. I don't care much for the exact model, time card or fixed salary.

If someone wants me on standby 24/7, he would have to open his wallet. Very wide.

I wouldn't say interesting so much as, what's taken them so long to do it?

It's a management code base for the purposes of maintaining servers, this should've been OS'd at it's inception.

But to be honest, PowerShell is a very mighty system. Every (good) cmdlet will give you some object-oriented output which can be piped to another cmdlet. (Ba)sh on the other hand is working with plain stdin/stdout/stderr, so basically strings. For example, there's no need for awk in PowerShell at all.

Most of our servers all have iLO, iDRAC. I haven't used IPMI... Some of our older servers don't have the built in tools.

Have you considered adding them? Buying external KVM is no different than adding them in. We used to add in used cards for like $20.

Addin cards for what? iDRAC / iLO? I thought you had to buy some kind of software licenses for those?

You didn't have to when you bought them as external cards.

These cards are often externally or battery powered embedded controllers that let you power on your hardware for example.

Awesome - I wonder who paid them to do that?

Better ask another question: Who wrote precise instructions to do so.

But the ability to force this type of change seems unlikely on AV equipment. So I'm wondering, does the AV equipment know what the receiving display is capable of outputting, or does it not care and just output whatever it's set to?

Both ends negotiate about protocols, codecs, resolution and so on. After this "handshaking" the sender will choose the best that was offered by the receiver. A good sender may allow you to choose a mode from a list. I'm not a Yammi fanboy, so I can't help with your receiver.

@scottalanmiller Thanks Scott, I think most of the people here now at least have an idea where your initial question comes form.

This indeed sounds good great awesome, but you also clearly mentioned the downsides factors like the on-call and no-vacations thing, something that is hard to come by when you first encounter this as an employee. But I guess that NTG members don't see themselves as employees, but more like a family from what I've been reading here. Especially the "longevity" is something that seems to be uncommon in the US, at least in IT.
