@BBigford hehe, know that feeling. Very well. So problem solved?

Solved but not explained. That's okay though. If nobody can chime in about Terminals specifically then I'll just drop it. Wanted to at least pose the question.

Bought a MobaXterm license a few months ago. Multiprotocol and multisession client, like mRemoteNG.

Take a look if you like, there's a free version with just some minor restrictions like amount of stored sessions, a few locked advanced settings etc. Full or "Pro" version is $70 or so, bound to user. You're free to install it on all your (the licensed user) machines. On top, there's a portable version that can run from a share or USB drive for example.

@scottalanmiller I know, Eastern Europe got quite some modern infrastructure. But the US on #4? There are people still dialing in with 56K...

The closest we got is probably http://champs-hamburg.de/

That place seems a bit high-brow for Dinosaur BBQ 😛

Yeah, the website doesn't reflect the atmosphere very good. It's a quite casual American sports bar / restaurant with very good food.

      dism sxs fails? That's ugly...

Have you seen this (blocking GPO)? http://superuser.com/questions/946988/cant-install-net-3-5-on-windows-10#comment1449644_947660

Edit: Won't help I think. GPO is about loading additional dependencies directly from Windows Update. Shouldn't relate to offline sxs.

      @BBigford Features: http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/features.html

MobaXterm will support that, and much more. Macros, SSH tunnel (local and remote port forwarding), a handy SFTP browser which always points to the current directory in your sh session, PuTTY keygen, X11 forwarding and even simple things like arranging and undocking windows (something very simple I'm missing from most other clients)

I think they are using PuTTY behind the scenes, but thats just a wild guess. IMHO, that tool is far superior compared to mRemoteNG (which isn't bad at all).

    • RE: Netbox IPAM & DCIM

      Interesting find.

      Two things coming to mind:

      1. Is it possible to assign multiple IP addresses per interface on a host? A typical scenario on a webserver or reverse HTTP/S proxy, even with SNI certs. This could be worked around by using multiple virtual interfaces

      2. This tool doesn't seem to boil down to VMs - which are from a logical point of view nothing but IP endpoints / hosts on their own. Or think about V-on-V cascading / stacking, something I have to run in a small project. Got a locked down KVM-VM that has to run unmodified on my existing infrastructure, which is Hyper-V. Just for example.

      Other IPAM tools?

Edit: Just found this thread about DCIM tools, will link your thread there.

I have no idea what happened prior to the uploading of the video. I leave this here for the community to give an opinion on the video above. Yes it is only on Facebook but you don't need an account to view.

      Opinions?

Nana couldn't get to Facebook for 2 hours... And doesn't own a smart phone? The afternoon is absolutely ruined.

I know if my mom couldn't get to Facebook to see her grand kids she'd... Probably just give up on waiting and physically go and see them. Problem solved.

I still call my family on Sunday's... Then again I don't have Facebook anymore because of the crap my family thinks people want to hear about.

Too bad you're only able to upvote once.

It can do that also, but that is not the core implementation of GV. GV has always been a forwarding service.

That's why I was wondering if you just turned off your cell service, would GV just use WiFi?

I don't see how they could block that, but I have read this does not work.

I have no idea what they do with existing accounts, but the GV web page is entirely blocked in the EU. I can't even look at it for information.

Seems to be available here in Germany: www.google.com/voice

@david.wiese said in Would You Hire Someone in IT Who Does Not Have a Home Lab:

The question that should be asked is does the dedication to the IT industry mean you should sacrifice your hobbies?

A better question, if IT isn't your hobby, should you have a different job? One that more closely matches you true likes and desires.

Would you ask a car mechanic the same who doesn't want to fix cars in his free time?

If I'm hiring a car mechanic for high end cars or something like Indy car racing - absolutely, and if they said no.. I'd bin their application. NTG is at the top of the field. Some companies put themselves there. They want the most enthusiastic for IT group they can get. As Danielle said, you can't teach enthusiasm, but you can teach skills. So far, their needs have been met buy people with either both enthusiasm and skills or just enthusiasm, and they taught them the skills. when the work pool starts to dry up, and they have fewer choices, they will have to be less picky on who they pick.

I agree from a personal point of view. But I can't expect everyone to be like this. Maybe someone just wants to do his job, that's ok. We should keep a few things in mind here:

      • Salary
      • Position
      • Goals

for example. I wouldn't expect a Level 1 helpdesk tech to have a small datacenter in his basement, he care barely live from what he carries home. If we are talking about a 100-150k+ position, it's a whole different story.
