@thwr Looks like a yes, according to the site. The only way it could get any better would be if they made similar models with POE that would integrate into the UniFi Controller bits.

Would be awesome if they would support some sort of stacking, either soft stacking / logical stacking or "hard stacking" with a traditional daisy chain. Need to buy 4x48 port access switches soon. Just Layer 2, but I will need POE and would love to have a single console to manage them.

Edit: UniFi controller... is that some sort of central management?

Yeah. It's the same software that runs / manages all of the UnFi enabled gear. It's mainly for the APs, though.

Uhm, really? So if I got 4x 48 port access switches + 2 APs I could manage them all from a single point?

But only if you get THESE switches... And these don't have PoE.

So let's hope they are on the roadmap. I've talked to pretty much everyone out there, from Cisco to Huawei and everyone in between, and no one could offer me a real unified system.

@thwr said in First Resume Critique:

      Just from a quick look:

      • I did not know where to look first. To many boxes and hard breaks in your design (worked for a media / design agency years ago)
      • Skip versions maybe
      • Skip basics

Design.. well. You got some major things you should take care of in your document, IMHO.

      • Good spacing and line height, easy read.
      • Font is a little light, but that's still ok. Just keep in mind: HR guys get tons of resumes and they need to - literally - scan them in a very short amount of time. The font can either make your resume look awesome or a "won't read".
      • I would avoid that 2x2 grid you are using. The eye can't follow, it's to "chaotic".
      • Nice to know your name, but you're wasting a lot of space for it
      • The main content block looks a bit... disrupted. Check your alignment. I would change the captions to align to the left
      • There's the first centered block labeled "Skills". Below that you got a left aligned list. Any reader would have a hard time reading this. Either make it align to the left (see above) or maybe try some centered or justified formatting, can make a huge difference:

      0_1517265210055_9fe69490-79fc-4db5-ba56-2c797ebdf6b9-image.png
(Glued that together in a sec. Isn't supposed to look awesome, just meant to give you an idea about formatting effects)

Keep in mind that our resumes are very different, so I won't comment much on the technical side.

So the UniFi lines main feature is central management, just judging from the name? I'm more into Cisco / Juniper / Nortel / Enterasys etc, never dealt with Ubiquiti but I'm open to anything new.

Yes, the base hardware is similar (but not exactly the same) from EdgeMax to UniFi.

EdgeMax is more carrier grade in the design concept.

UniFi is the central managed point and click Meraki concept.

Interesting. Will have a look. Noticed that the UniFi Switches don't have SFP+ ports, that may be a showstopper for my specific use case. But I also don't want to spend like 2-4k EUR per access switch, that's why I'm still looking for options.

The point is: I do have a 10G uplink (dark fiber) at that site. It's planned as a shared research lab and all parties there will have their own little server cabinet. Need to bring at least a little bandwith to each party. A bit hard to explain.

      So he does system support

I am sure he has touched windows server before on the job

I am sure he has worked with backups, even if its just using a SaaS solution

Also if he is using VPN to connect to remote sights then he is managing the connection in a sense 😉

Remember, he's 23. No one expects him to be like Tim Berners-Lee.

Yes, UniFi would remind you of Meraki, but you host your own controller and don't have to deal with an annual charge for owning the gear.

The UniFi line is also more limited in functionality than EdgeMax when it comes to the routers. I have not compared the switches.

      I don't care about any routers, I'm a pfSense junky 😉

@Fredtx said in Follow-Up After Interview:

Yea, that makes sense. I wasn't sure if it would give an impression that I wasn't interested if I didn't follow up.

Also, after I interviewed with operations managers/etc I immediately interviewed with the HR manager. HR did tell me she's sure that I'm actively applying for other companies and to have patience as it's a long process for their hiring. I'm still going to actively apply at other places though. If I've already been eliminated I would really like to know if there was anything wrong I did so it can help me with future interviews.

Some companies need ages to respond. One example is a well known European aviation company: Can take them three or four months to get back to you. There is no "one-rule-for-all"-thing here. Large enterprises tend to react slower, but the same can be true for a 50 ppl shop. I've also seen it the other way around where a very large company sent me a contract after a few days.

Be a little more patient and call them in one or two weeks.

Wacken is freaking awesome. Never been there myself yet, but it's on my todo list. Wacken is in the middle of nowhere, a very small village in northern Germany.

      From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wacken_Open_Air:
Wacken Open Air (W:O:A) is a summer open-air heavy metal music festival. It takes place annually in the small village of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany. With 80,000 festival visitors, and including personnel a total of roughly 86,000 attendees in 2011,[2] it attracts various kinds of metal and hard rock music fans.

@scottalanmiller said in Android Banking Malware:

Active users of mobile banking apps should be aware of a new Android banking malware campaign targeting customers of large banks in the United States, Germany, France, Australia, Turkey, Poland, and Austria. This banking malware can steal login credentials from 94 different mobile banking apps. Due to its ability to intercept SMS communications, the malware is also able to bypass SMS-based two-factor authentication. Additionally, it also contains modules to target some popular social media apps.

      Defeats two factor authentication!!

Honestly, any vendor using Flash is just asking for this.

SMS has never been a secure factor. Easy to intercept on wireless networks, even more on smartphones where an malicious app has access to the GSM modem or messaging API.
