@DustinB3403 said in Videowall system: @wrx7m It's just a SBC with HDMI out that allows you to use software to setup your scene. It'll take a few different files (but they need to be stored locally or on an SD card) for the unit. It's purely a LAN based device. It can work, but you really need to understand where it's limit is. They have their cloud service that replaces the local software. Also, it is designed for more than just LAN. At least, since the middle of last year, when I got one.

@thwr You could also just rent another identical server with Hetzner. When you have moved everything over you can terminate the first one. It unlikely that the second server has problems as well. Will only cost you roughly 200 euros to do it. OVHcloud has also dedicated game servers. https://www.ovh.ie/dedicated_servers/game/prices/ I think they are in the same market segment as Hetzner.

That ancient firmware on there is pretty silly. Almost all Ubiquiti equipment come with outdate firmware by 2 or 3 months or more at times. You have no clue what you are talking about. 2-3 months? Hhhahahaahahahahh At least on APs from Amazon their firmware is from January the last AP I bought three days ago. Not sure why you doubt that... Because this is a discussion about EdgeMax hardware not Unifi. ok, point taken. ER-L came with 1.7.0 last December. My most recent one, from four weeks ago, was still 1.2. I've never had an ERL shipped to me with anything other than 1.2 Edit: that is the original firmware btw... Got a 1.0 not long ago (ER-48-LITE or 500W, can't remember) Not sure what my switches came with Probably were 1.0. The GUI totally changed after updating them.

Jokes aside, Mailcow works very well and the author's support is awesome; this one I use and recommend. I would say that Mailcheap's web site has lots of information, but that's me. I don't use it as I host my own email (besides using Office 365/G Suite/others depending on the client). I just seemed to me that it checked all @thwr needs while being recommended by people I trust. $0.02

@thwr said in Disk imaging tools: @nadnerb said in Disk imaging tools: Macrium Reflect Ah, thank you. Macrium Reflect was the product I couldn't remember. It worked very well for someone I knew when he was in a similar situation. Anyway, I will probably use clonezilla again +1 one for Macrium Reflect as the best easy way to go about it (I've had some unsuccessful Clonezilla attempts before). In my experience with Acronis, you can't cherry pick partitions (like the OEM recovery partition) at clone time, but you can with Macrium Reflect.

@thwr said in LTO tape library upgrade: @penguinwrangler said in LTO tape library upgrade: We are looking at going with LTO-8. The capacity and speed and the ability that it is offline and can be offsite extremely easy were all winners in our books. Offline meaning once the tape is in storage it is not on a network and can get hit by ransomware. It's just a requirement for us. But yes, your points are valid. 12TB uncompressed per tape isn't that bad. I was looking for an upgrade because 1.5TB for LTO-5 isn't exactly what fits todays capacities. We can't use cloud backup, hasn't been approved for us yet. So the capacity of the LTO-8 tapes is what we like.

A few friends and I were talking about doing this. I can highly recommend the Anycubic I3 Mega. I do have access to quite a few printers, incl. Ultimaker 2/3 Extended, BigReps and others. The Anycubic is outstanding given the price and at least compareable to the Ultimaker IMHO. Great results, good build quality, no open wires like other cheap printers.

But yes, I'm in the same boat: I would like to click on a VLAN label and see a list of all associated access ports. Or I want to click on a cable and see the patch field number. Can't be this hard. There are some tools out there, like http://demo.racktables.org/ etc. But it looks a little bit like ... eye cancer Sure, but I don't really consider that the same as Visio. That's like saying that notepad is the same as Word, one is a in general basic visual diagram solution, the other is an imbedded data mine with GUI to the data. I've never asked for Visio or similar tools but everyone's way to document their cables and devices lol I guess you did... but I don't know of many (any off hand) that have an interactive documentation solution like this. I know Spiceworks has a thing that kinda does this - but it sucks pretty bad and offers little if any ability to edit it to be more accurate.

@tdantzler said in Yet another UBNT EdgeMax vs Unifi: @JaredBusch I'm looking at the AirMAX lineup and have used a few of the products like the NanoStation 5AC loco with fabulous results.. but the rest of the stuff looks a little more than consumer grade. Do you think this is an accurate breakdown - Unifi - Small to Medium business with low customization needs. Primarily for Access Layer and down. Nice interface but not standard for routing setup UniFi routers and switches, yes. UniFi Access Points, are solid for any purpose. Also, I would personally never use UniFi routing/switching in SMB. But I know some people just live that pretty pane of glass that they never look at after 3 weeks.

@JaredBusch said in Ubiquiti switches: UniFi vs EdgeMax: @coliver said in Ubiquiti switches: UniFi vs EdgeMax: @thwr said in Ubiquiti switches: UniFi vs EdgeMax: Mh, is the EdgeSwitch able to run a VPN tunnel on its own? I need to connect a "remote" office to my server room. The office is in the 3rd floor, my server room in the basement and I need to run through a "public" patch room (primary cabling junction for the building). Like: 3rd floor "remote" office -> fiber -> public patch room -> fiber -> my Serverroom (basement) -> Office I doubt it has the ability to configure a VPN that seems like an edge device is needed for that. It does not. That would be the router's job. Yeah, could have been. Probably the same software behind the scenes etc.

@thwr said in DCs out of sync: @Dashrender said in DCs out of sync: @thwr said in DCs out of sync: No substantial changes have been made during the last couple of weeks. Just a few new users and password changes plus maybe 2 or 3 new machine accounts. Some clients and servers now refuse to authenticate users during login due to the well known "trust could not be established between..." error. Where you still getting those errors after you powered down the broken DC? I'm guessing not since you moved forward with the install of another DC. Nope. Only "missing that other DC" errors now, which is fine. I've got some crappy internet connection (free WiFi in the train, next to no 3G/4G signal) here and can't check the current state. but it was fine half an our ago. OK, reading your OP, it seemed that you were getting those errors after turning off the broken DC, but since you're not - seems like you found a good solution.

@thwr said in Fedora Server for production use?: @stacksofplates said in Fedora Server for production use?: @thwr said in Fedora Server for production use?: Interesting: Fedora 25 starts to panic with RAM < 512MB at the beginning of the kernel init phase, even in text mode. Just had a look at the manual which clearly says that Fedora requires 1GB of RAM. Looks like I'm out of luck and have to stick to Ubuntu / Debian. Another thing to note is with RHEL/CentOS 7.3 they recommend a 1GB boot partition instead of 512MB. Just an aside. Should work as long as you keep an eye on it. Ubuntu for example likes to keep old kernel and initrd images there until you clean them up (e.g. apt autoclean etc) Ya I usually keep 3 and remove the others but I think the images are getting big enough they needed to adjust the size. If you do anew install it defaults to 1GB.

I think that efforts like what HPE and Dell have been doing to get very high density, very low cost ARM "blades" into the datacenter is where it is going to be. And that there will either be loads of hypervisor management used to push out workloads or something similar that does this for bare metal much like Ubuntu's MaaS (Metal as a Service) to get the ARM blades to act as much like VM hosts as possible.
