@dafyre - I had used your instructions a while back and everything worked perfectly. A couple weeks ago, I was setting this up for someone else and couldn't get it to work. After messing around with it for a while I noticed that Zerotier has the Rules section in the control panel. I took the rules from my old working setup and pasted them into the rules on the newer network. Everything worked perfectly after that. Not 100% sure what was different from the old rules vs the new ones but definitely a change in their default Rules makes it not work correctly.

The v- lets you know its a reseller that paid for access to you. Nothing with v- is a true audit.

@scottalanmiller - Appreciate the info. Makes me wish I could move my Windows clients to Linux.

Its SAM. Its the fake audit. Its a scam. Its not official, its not required, and it often is misleading and wrong and can lead to license problems.

Thank you. There is way too much conflicting info with this. A lot of posts online say it is a self audit and you should do it to avoid a mandatory audit, etc.

    • MS SAM Audit

I had a client forward this to me today. I assume a handful of you have gone through this before. Is this basically the self audit? If they do decide to do the audit, do we just fill in the info on the website and then wait to hear back?

      Thanks

Following our recent communication, we are engaging your organization in a Microsoft License Verification Process. This process is designed to review the Microsoft software you have deployed against your corresponding license and subscription entitlements. Just in case you have a 3rd party IT provider or if you outsource or its handled by corporate headquarters , you can loop them in or forward this email to them to check validity.

To begin, you will receive access to a Software Asset Management (SAM) portal called, Microsoft insight. This portal will be used to collect, analyze and manage your software licensing. Simply input your software usage and compare it to your ownership entitlements to assist you with Microsoft licensing compliance. A centralized view and guided recommendations will help you manage your IT environment efficiently and shape your IT priorities.

      Very possible.

No it is not. That is not how that works.

Caller ID unavailable means no caller ID number was passed.

Now if @syko24 means that the CID number is coming through, but the CID name is showing as unavailable, yes, that is possible. That would just be a receiving carrier issue.

I have yet to see it for myself. Customers call my client back and tell them they did not answer the phone because the caller id showed up as unavailable. I believe there is no number or name in the caller id.

    • VOIP.MS caller id unavailable

I have a customer that is using freepbx and voip.ms. They have been complaining that the caller id sometimes shows up as unavailable to the people they are calling. Whenever I have tested it either to my office phone, home phone, or cell phone everything shows up fine. I kind of feel like the people that are seeing unavailable may all be with the same carrier. Can you guys think of anything else that I could be missing here?

@scottalanmiller - Is there a way to disable/remove CBT in Veeam Agent? I see articles about doing it but the link / feature doesn't exist on my install. I am not sure if this is only meant to be on the paid versions.

      https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agentforwindows/userguide/cbt_remove.html?ver=30

That is to change which CBT Veeam uses, not to disable CBT.

So it looks like the free version uses the Veeam default driver and the paid versions have additional CBT drivers meant for specific types of backups - ex: SQL Server or Exchange???

    • Two Backups using CBT

There is a lot of inconsistent info regarding using multiple backup products that use CBT. Can anyone confirm whether this causes conflict between the backup sets? I am typically using Veeam Agent for Windows (Free) to backup our servers. I am playing around with Synology's Active Backup for Business because it has the instant VM restore feature. I am concerned that our Exchange is not being backed up correctly. The date modified does not update on the EDB file after a backup happens after running the second backup software. I am not sure if this is due to CBT or just VSS in general.

I have seen that Veeam has a command to reset CBT but the command returns:

       C:\Windows\system32>"C:\Program Files\Veeam\Endpoint Backup\Veeam.EndPoint.Manager.exe" RESETCBT all
The system cannot find the file specified.
Error: in [VctInit] at step [1]
Agent failed to process method {VeeamVolumeCt.ResetTracking}.

    • RE: Hyper V - USB Disk not showing up

@Joel said in Hyper V - USB Disk not showing up:

      Hi Guys
Wonder if you can help shed some light on this.

      I have a Hyper V core host machine with 2x VM's installed (1x DC and 1x SQLServer).
We have a USB device (8TB) plugged into our host, (put offline) and then bought online within our SQLServer. This has been working well and we use the USB to backup.

HOWEVER, recently the USB from the SQLServer has disappeared and we cant bring it back online! We've rebooted servers but it still wont show up on our SQL Server.

Note: we use Windows Admin Centre to manage the host and VM's and in the pic you can see within Admin Centre you can see in the settings for the SQLServer shows our 8TB Hard Drive, however when we list disk's on the actual VM we dont see it!!! DiskMago.JPG

Can anyone help identify how we can bring our USB back online?
This did happen before and it seems the way we bought it back online was by going on site and using Hyper V Manager software to re-attach the drive but seems a long winded way to bring it back visible. Any ideas?

      Thanks

Any reason to not just create a VHDX on the usb drive and attach that to the VM? Passing the usb drive from the host to the VM I don't believe is actually supported. It may work but clearly not reliable.

Just curious are you guys leaving the web portal (login screen) open to all IPs or are you restricting to your office addresses? I like being able to login to our ScreenConnect from everywhere. I am not sure if MeshCentral has a lockout mechanism yet. Granted there is the 2FA now.

    • RE: Exchange 2013 Remote (Socket Error)

@scottalanmiller We receive emails from O365 accounts all the time. The socket error only seems to show up when sent from this one person's email address. I have asked him to send two test emails. One with the original content and CC my personal gmail account and then just a small test email with a subject and quick hello in the body. I want to see if there is something odd with any attachments that he is sending to us.

Sounds like a protocol issue between the two.

Between our exchange and the spam filter or our exchange and the senders O365?

    • Exchange 2013 Remote (Socket Error)

Sorry I know this is a vague question but has anyone seen or know what Remote (Socket Error) refers to on Exchange 2013?

The logs on the receive connector show everything is ok up until the part where is should say message queued for delivery. Instead is says Remote(Socket Error).

This seems to only be happening when one sender tries to email us. All other external email seems to be fine. The mail flows like this:

      1. The person trying to email us is sending from Exchange hosted O365
      2. Goes to our external spam filter
      3. Goes to our Exchange server

The external spam filter is passing the message. I have whitelisted the senders address both at the external filter as well as on the Exchange server. Not sure why our server is not liking messages from this sender.

      Any thoughts???

      Thanks

If you happen to have a Synology onsite, they also offer Active Backup For Office 365. I'm using this at a small client's site with ~40 mailboxes. Works pretty well.

Keep in mind Active Backup is only available on certain models of Synology. I believe mostly on the plus models. It is an awesome software though.
