Depends on the type of VPN and if you are tunneling all traffic or not. Do you have more info?
I'm playing around with this n that trying to gain some knowledge, it's just a lab environment.
What I was thinking of doing was running up an Azure Windows VM, setting up a VPN connection to that from my 2016 VPS and seeing if I can add the Azure VM as a second DC to the domain I have on my VPS.
I've read this can be done, but I don't know if once the VPN connection is in place whether I will be able to RDP back into my 2016 VPS?
you might able to do so if the VPN doesn't take the route of your other network. Worst case scenario you just disconnect the user from the VPN and you are right back in it.
Thanks for advice. I guess as this is a knowledge building exercise, best way to find out is to just do it and see.

@scottalanmiller Hey great thanks, Scott, I'll go and check that out this weeekend.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@nadnerb Hey g'day. It's purely for backups, no streaming or sharing req'd. I'll need at least enough space for 3 x 600GB full image backups then about 200GB for a mix of diffs. It'll be backing up 1 server & 2 PCs. Pretty much just for rebuilding from images should any machine die.

RE: Windows VMs on Linux VPS. Possible?
Friday ended well. I located 3 Dell T610s I can lay my hands on. All have at least 24GB and at least 600GB SAS storage so I'm covered for hardware.

Fedora name resolution
Got a problem with Fedora v28 w/station unable to resolve names.
It has valid IP address, DNS addresses and can ping by IP address but can't resolve names or FQDNs.
The NIC icon up top right hand corner has a question mark over it.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'm new to Linux so will require spoon feeding.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
hahaha. never done this before. rushing too much, went to add a new server as a 2nd DC, tried it twice, Server 2016. No errors no warnings, ran through the entire process twice, machine reboots post role install but doesn't come up with an option to log into the domain, only locally.
haha. machine is not a domain member!

RE: Remote Desktop to Fedora 28?

RE: Client Wants To Transition From Windows To Linux
The above posts concentrate alot on Linux equivalents to Windows software. Have you considered the impact to the business and the day to day business operations that may be impacted by going non mainstream?
Puts Devils Advocate hat on.
What happens when they need to use software from a supplier / client / producer / whoever that was written for Windows and can only supply it for Windows. Also that party may only provide support when that software runs in a Windows environment.
You could run it in a Windows emulator. There's added complexity for staff & support, plus additional time in getting it all running.
Staff will need to be retrained as things won't run just like they do in Windows. New employees will be Windows aware few to none will have any Linux knowledge.
The entire world uses Windows, a few small islands use Linux.
I'm not anti Linux nor pro Windows, I can just see lots and lots of headaches, incompatibilities, duplication of work, confusion, retraining, cost, time.
Can the business run reliably & efficiently on Linux? What's the support base like in the area where the business is located? If you're hit by a bus is there anyone else who can support their Linux based business?
Will their phones, cameras, ipods, wahetever be able to plug into their Linux workstations and work?
What happens if it just doesn't work and it becomes too difficult? You may have to end up going Windows and have wasted time & money and will be asking for additional time & money to roll out the MS solution.
Be careful, this is the sort of thing that can destroy reputations.
And again, I'm not anti Linux nor pro Windows, bring back pen & paper I say!
Good luck.

How business ready is ZeroTier?
I may have a business use for ZeroTier and I'm wondering if the service is secure enough, reliable enough & business ready?
From the reading I've done & what I understand of it, it does look very secure. I've had it running on 3 servers for at least a month & a bit with no problems, but suggesting it to a client is way different to using it to hook up a few servers in your lab.
The use case is very simple, just file transfer which I know it will handle without issue. I guess my greatest concern is security.
The client currently has an MPLS network and they have an extra site that doesn't justify the cost of the MPLS connection. This is why I'm considering ZeroTier.
What do others think?

working out a new visitation schedule for my public service support contract. i've never felt more overlooked, under appreciated, ignored and taken for granted than I have in any other IT contract i've had in 30 years.
By management, or a vendor?
management, although there is so little management that is done, I call them arrangers.

WSUS Help
Finally setup wsus on a 2016 server. All went well except I told it I wanted updates for Windows 7, which I've decided I don't want.
I told it I want updates for Windows 10 and it's downloading updates for all flavours of Windows 10, we only run Pro. So far it's filled up the 200GBs I set aside for it only 3 days ago.
I can uninstall wsus and start again, that's not a problem, is that the quickest and easiest way to get some of my 200GBs back and start over?
And, how can I tell it I only want updates for W10 Pro?
And, if anyone has a link to a 'I don't want to think too much' guide for setting up wsus, I'd be keen to take a look.
Thanks for any help.

What would you suggest for a Windows tablet?
Thinking of getting a tablet for support work, maybe run 1 VM, surfing, music, maybe a few videos.
I'd need 8GB, a headphone jack, USB3, touch.
Any suggestions?
