ownCloud warnings
-
At this point, I am not reading the thread as it is so useless. For the record, I have emailed ownCloud corporate to verify that we don't have a disgruntled employee situation on our hands before this conversation continues. I don't want ownCloud being thrown under the boss if this is not actually an ownCloud representative. A good disgruntled employee wanting to do maximum damage would do so in exactly this way. So I am asking that this thread be locked and not unlocked until ownCloud verifies that we have real representation on this thread. So much damage is being done to their reputation that I feel they need to weigh in and verify that this is intentional.

I'm working to get some clarification here and appreciate the perspectives on this. While I can't guarantee consensus, hoping to provide some more objective follow-up. Thanks for your patience.

They are between community calls right now. I spoke with them about an hour ago, @JaredBusch is speaking with them shortly. We had a very good conversation and they are preparing a full response but I would assume not until after they speak with Jared as they want to be sure to address his concerns. I think that you will be happy with the response when it comes.
They said that they will link from this thread to the response when it is available.

How is @jospoortvliet related to OC?
He is an engineer with the development team, I believe. He's definitely on staff there.

To address some questions raised here and elsewhere, please see http://mangolassi.it/topic/8425/owncloud-9-0-ubuntu-and-a-few-more-things. Thanks.

I'm sure he's just having a "feeling sheepish" day. It was likely an honest fight or flight response that most people have. As an engineer I doubt that he's had training on controlling and identifying those responses like you would hope sales and marketing people would have. I've worked in environments where they test your FoF response daily and try to get you to panic. It's called an amygdala (aka lizard brain) response. If you aren't trained to recognize it, you'll easily have devolving logical discussions without knowing you are losing the sense of it. Not that it never happens to me, but I've had training on it in some crazily intense environments. Specific training where I had to take a year of classes, that sort of thing.
I doubt he's in any trouble. But probably avoiding us today

@scottalanmiller In terms of installing OwnCloud, would you recommend waiting until aforementioned fixes have been applied?

I have had issues with 9.0 on both Ubuntu and CentOS. I am going to wait for some bugs to be ironed out.

The installer not working right. I've wiped the VM 3 times now.

Ouch :(. That's interesting.

They have at least updated the PHP warning to something intelligent.
But the rest of the issues supposedly addressed after this thread was created are still not resolved. This is from a fully patched and updated 9.0.2 install.

@JaredBusch yeah, but the warning about the internet connection still has the old wording, that one - the discussion isn't finished, it seems.
Not sure what the fedora/RH thing shows or what is/isn't wrong. We did drop support for Fedora but the owncloud-files.noarch package should work almost everywhere and on any version of RH/Fedora/CentOS/etc
