@Scott These things are funny to talk about, but why do it? It is your money being spent for the inbound call.
It's doesn't have to be about the money.
It is always about the money.
That's why you are you and I am me.
-
When I was much younger and not professional, I changed the hold music on my last day at a job to a CD with gangster rap. Not sure how long it lasted.

No, that is business.

Someday you'll realize it's not about money, and certainly not about your flavor of "business". Think of me when you do.

There are plenty of hobby companies out there. But they are not real business. They are hobbies for whoever runs it.

@Skyetel People like to defend the weirdest things.
The only purpose of any business is to make profit. It is not like this is a secret.
-
@JaredBusch Our hold music is epic bagpipe music, and we have Lenny turned on for our own phone number.
Sometimes you should have some fun while also trying to make some money. They aren't mutually exclusive
-
Nobody has mentioned Lenny?!
We just keep a blocked number list and forward to his extension

How did this thread get so long without someone mentioning Jolly Rodger Phone Company? https://jollyrogertelephone.com/

@manxam post right above yours. But they didn’t link to it.

If you want some dreadful hold music, check out the first 30-45 seconds of the 1st song on John Zorn's Classical Guide to Strategy. It is an album of improvised music on soprano sax and duck calls (no, seriously). My buddy used to use it to get people out of the used CD store at closing time. Never failed.

Now this I most definitely disagree with.
I will agree that most businesses want to make a profit - while at the same time, not trying to squeeze out every last time of legit legal profit - instead making enough profit to the CEO's/owner's happiness...

You are injecting your own bias in here.
The purpose of the business is to make a profit.
The purpose of the CEO is to be happy.
Those are not mutually exclusive things. -

The purpose of the CEO is to be happy.
Those are not mutually exclusive things.Except that the CEO actually sets the purpose of the business - unless it's a publicly held company then it is more about profits, though the CEO can still make it not about ultimate profits.

No, you are not correct. A business is about profit. The people running the business in a way that is not that, are not running a business. They are running a hobby, or a charity simply to provide employment for no reason, etc. But they are not running a business.
