I'm sure this is a very basic question among the people that hang here. However, I am trying to write up some tutorials for the students here and would like to capture the actions on my screen into video but be able to zoom in on certain areas so I am not screenshotting the whole thing.

      Anyone got some recommendations?

Camstudio should do the trick for you. Couple that with the Zoomit tool from Microsoft and it should do what you want it to.

For Windows, you can use the snip-it tool. In the latest version of Win10, there is the XBox bar, which has the capability of recording the screen. Its all built in. Unless you are looking for something more.

I should add that I'm looking for a mac. I have tried SnagIt and Jing but just don't seem to have the function I'd like unless I'm not using it right. Which could also be the case.

I've used HyperCam in the past. For Mac, I once used Screenium.

Camtasia is my favorite (of course I have only played around with it). I have used Quicktime as well...

On a Mac, hands down, Screenflow would be my choice...https://www.telestream.net/screenflow/overview.htm

I'd throw my hands up if I had to be on a Mac.

                    LOL. Badum tiss.

For Windows I would use shareX but without knowing what operating system you're trying to do this on I mean pretty much any thing might work
