I have one DL380 G8 and an IMB 2003 AIX box and a IBM 3650 M2.... We've never had Dell servers here.
I haven't worked on a Dell in 17+ yrs.

We have a few. Corporate started buying them but all of our clusters are HPE. And some random IBM and a few old Sun machines.

I've used HP's in the past. In a Dell shop here. I have no real preference, but the boss prefers Dells. Not really Pro-Dell, but more anti-HP. So we go with Dell.

I have clients that prefer one thing or another for whatever reason. But I care not.

I'm not sure I understand brand loyalty especially where servers are concerned. They are commodity hardware now, and have been for the past several years, get what you need for the moment at the best price and move on.

Yes, but you can't keep one set of spares for multiple vendors. You have to manage support agreements and relationships with more companies. Things like that.

We're talking about the SMB, are there a lot of SMBs that carry spare server parts instead of using the 4 hour response window that most of the major vendors have. If the cost of downtime is big enough sure they would have the parts on hand and your argument makes sense. But I doubt most SMBs would see much advantage to having the parts on hand over a 4-hour or 24-hour window.
Agreed with the managing support contracts but most SMBs, again, probably won't see a difference other then we need to call X vendor for this hardware.

Those preferences don't matter though, because they are just responses to marketing. They are not IT people and have no idea. Thankfully there is no difference as we have all said.
