Family suing Apple over not restricting the use of FaceTime at Highway Speeds

A Texas family is suing Apple because, Apple doesn't restrict the use of FaceTime for users in vehicles moving at Highway speeds.
Which the immediate thought is, the user is the person responsible for using or not using the technology. A passenger would also be subject to this same restriction as there is no driving monitor that can be enabled for just the drivers seat.
So while I get that it's horrible that one person's actions cause you to lose you children, you can't possibly think that it's fair to literally everyone that FaceTime (and other such tech) be disabled at highway speeds.

This is the poor state of our society... We blame inanimate objects for just about everything. Oh, I got burned from McD's coffee,.. so sue McD.
We need to grow up and take responsibility for OUR actions.

The driver who is at fault for the wreck and death of the child admitted to using FaceTime while driving to the police. And is on trial for manslaughter of the daughter who died.
Sorry parents if you can't squeeze money from the stone that is the person at fault. But Apple is not at fault here, I personally hope your case is immediately dismissed without the option for appeal.

The driver should be convicted of manslaughter, because using facetime while driving is utterly stupid and that makes him negligent in the kid's death. Until convictions start happening, people will continue doing stupid things with technology and injuring innocent bystanders. Make an example of a few, and the rest will fall in line.

I agree mostly with what you guys are saying, but that specific coffee scenario isn't what you think it is. I thought the exact same thing.

It's not a technology thing, it's just being distracted. Should be the same with anything... reading a book, staring at billboards, trying to eat.

True, but it seems like technology causes more trouble than billboards or eating. Distracted driving in general should be cause for major penalties, including losing your license (with no chance of getting it back). Need to stare at your phone all the time? Take the freaking bus.

Typical blame culture without taking responsibility of using the technology correctly. It annoys me with some parents moaning how their children can see adult themed videos on facebook and google but don't supervise their own children using the internet.

Saw this on news last night. I agree Apple probably shouldn't be getting sued. They are providing a piece of tech, people need to learn to use it proper. However, distracted driving is a huge problem. In fact it is more dangerous than drunk driving.
The only way to stop it is to impound offender's vehicle for a month, suspend their license for a month, first offense. Making someone sit on a bus for hours a day smelling the outcasts of humanity will make them think twice about texting/videophoning and driving. Then if it is still a problem they can put those dumbasses in prison like they do for multiple dui offenders. -
Maybe a good counter-suit will help.

Very. The US legal system makes it too easy for any lawsuit to be to the benefit of the aggressor regardless of who is at fault. Instead of being a shield, US law is too often a weapon.
