I think the drone camera is neat... it gives a whole new and totally different perspective on the place and people. However they are noisy and may not be 'legal' in all areas of the world.
not to mention, the drone is a 'new' modern way of taking the selfie...

@Ambarishrh when in Panama I got @pchiodo hooked up with basically the same point and shoot that I do. So he can report on that.
It's *&^%$$()ing awesome. For an all around multi-purpose camera, it does a fantastic job. It's shock proof and water proof. I took some underwater pics and video in Jamaica and they turned out stellar! Highly recommend.
And what camera would this be. Neither of you two told us! @scottalanmiller said Nikon AW, but which specific one? Or are they all the same? Is there only one?
Mine is a Coolpix AW130
I think they used to make an AW100 and 110, but I'm not sure they are available any longer. The AW130 is the current model, and they also have an AW120 - Both are waterproof and shock proof.
Here's a link - http://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/compact-digital-cameras/index.page#!/tag:uiQ:Waterproof/Shockproof

Mine is the original, the AW100. Still works great. Had it at MangoCon this week, too.

A buddy of mine also uses the Nikon line of cameras. I'm not sure what he's got, but even 7 or 8 years ago with the cameras he had then, he was shooting weddings and such with them.

I've been on Nikon for my pro work since around 1990 when I bought my first Nikon 5005 SLR to replace my older Canon and Olympus pro gear. I've been on Nikon ever since. I've had a D50 and a D90 in addition to my AW100. Nikon makes some serious stuff. They are best known for their use in newspaper photojournalist circles, which is where I used them as that's what I did.

And the Hero 5.
Osmo+ is due out in a week, too.

I sure like the GoPro KnockOffs for their value. A $100 knockoff rivals a $300 gopro for video quality.

I got my camera. My preference was to get the Nikon P610. Unfortunately, that model is not available anymore and replaced with the newer model P900 which is 80x zoom but is also bulky, almost the same size of an SLR. Upon checking alternatives for the P610, found Canon SX60 HS
The advantage of this compared to Nikon P610 is that it also supports the raw format and is 65x zoom compared to the 60x on Nikon. Apart from that this compared to Nikon has an additional mic, flash, etc. can be connected. Supports NFC & Wifi can use mobile to be used for remote shooting. I am still exploring all the features and learning the basics.
-
80x zoom? That seems impossible. I've never seen anything that can do that. Normal zoom numbers are like 3 - 10x.

Wow it really is. No wonder it is bulky. Zoom like that takes a lot of glass.

Missed that. 80x zoom in a point and shoot? Crazy.

Seriously. It's a big point and shoot, but still. You can do an awful lot with one of those!

The Canon SX60 that i have now is smaller but still gives 65x zoom. Still need to explore all the features and learn this before my trip, one way it's good that i have few days before the trip to make sure i use this well!

You are planning to travel every year to new destinations and you have not any Camera except Mobile camera, this is very shocking for me. You have to buy any Point and shoot camera.
For deciding which point and shoot camera is good for you, I would like to share one article with you. Here is article link http://www.gadgetreview.com/best-point-and-shoot-digital-camera Using this review article you can easily decide which point and shoot camera is the best for your use.
According to me you should not buy drone because of Drone is very expensive and most of the countries are not allowing you to to use drone as you already said.
One option is there, when you need drone, you can hire it on rent. This is the best option for you.

The new Karma drove looks very promising, though. I do a lot of time in Central America where they are very much allowed.
