What Are You Doing Right Now

We've got one of those users who likes to call 3-4 times a day saying the internet is slow.
Doesn't everyone have one of these users
That and callers who say "Is there a problem with the network because my computer is really slow today". There is never a "problem with the network" but this seems to be thing everyone mentions. It's not helped when people have a problem with a 3rd party system and the vendor says to them "can you check with the IT department and see if the network is ok". Or even "can you get the IT department to check the cables". The cables? WTF! Sort your crappy software before complaining about cables!
Or sometime someone will say "it must be the network because Sue said her computer was slow as well" and I have to explain that Sue is complaining about the speed of processing sales invoice posting batches on our ERP system whereas you are talking about running a cat video in your Facebook feed. Despite what you might think, the two are not related!

I have a vendor that does this all the time... "It must be something with the network." The last time they said we were getting odd database corruptions... turned out to be an error in the software that wasn't writing to the database correctly. The time before that they had some bizarre timeout issues on their client that was fixed with a software patch. Probably the network though.

Just like it was the shutoff valve on the buffer panel

My users ask "are you doing something to the server? because ______ doesn't work"...
Ok, 1) which server? there are like a dozen... and 2) i'm tired of telling you that your specific error comes from the poor configuration at the customer's site, I can't fix it. -

Yep! I'm glad users are the same the world over.
I also get "I can't get onto the system". Er...mind telling me which system?
Then there's "do I have to reboot because I've got loads of files open". No, not at all. Why don't you make a cup of tea and I'll logon and spend 15 minutes of my time trying to figure out what the problem is without rebooting because Lord knows it is far too much effort for you to have to close down a few applications and reboot and we all know your time is soooo much more valuable than mine.

Sipping my coffee and lamenting the lack of trout caught, though an awesome time was had regardless.
Not feeling so hot today, I think some of the food while camping didn't agree with me.

Considering how busy (and smelly) our bathrooms have been today, you'd think the same thing happened here.

My office here had a salmon fishing event this past weekend.

That sounds like a load of fun. One could say I could go fishing this coming weekend, however I will not be in the location that would allow that to happen. I have the needed license for my home state, but will be out of state - and for the duration, it's not practical to do so...

Probably was, I did not get to go, though
I don't fish, so not a big deal, but would have been cool to go along and I do like to eat salmon.
