Had my interview this morning - it was an interesting interview.
I was interviewed by the Sys admin and a Level 1 tech.
they asked some troubleshooting questions, asked about why I got into IT and what made me choose them. Things seem pretty relaxed there, a its a lot like what I currently do but with the ability to move up. Though I feel like it's another entry level position - I wouldn't be starting at entry level , more intermediate help desk/ Jr Sys Admin.

Considering taking this one - if the stuff aligns.

What kind of pay raise or cut are you looking at? Being relaxed at a job you spend most of your waking hours at counts for a lot, too.

pay raise - close to 10k more a year + benefits are much better.

even if job is the same - that's a huge win

That's a big deal. And it is a different company. That alone is a factor. Not only because your old company is crap, but also because you need variety. Sticking to a single job with no changes vertically or laterally for many years when in a junior role is a killer for career advancement. At some point, some point before where you are now, your "experience" time in that one job actually starts to count against you rather than for you. It becomes "what is wrong that he's not moved on?"

So even if this isn't a step up right away, getting out of where you are now (and still paying your bills) needs to be a high priority.

Doing even the same job, in a different shop, will mean more exposure to more different things and that means more experience.

Hey I had an interview today too! Local hardware distributor good track record looking to add to their tech support team. Their Corporate marketing manager recommended me for the position (Former co-worker, I wasn't asking them for a job) didnt even officially "apply" they just asked if I had a resume last week/ Went very well want me back next week for an in person walk though. (and hopefully an offer).
Now the questions going to become do I wan tot take a possible pay cut to go work for them? The job will definitely be a bit of a learning cureve but definitely what I want to do (more LInux admin and VoIP stuff which Im weak at now)

And as this interview has taught me, I definitely need to get the home lab back up and operational. @WrCombs you may want to look at getting a lab together.

Good stuff right there, add a little LVM and you've got a great storage stack.

What I'm wanting to do when redo my lab server is not use the hardware RAID controller and Linux handle the RAID. I'm practicing on some VMs first.

Trying to make powershell wait for an azure-ad guest account to be available so we can add it to a M365 group with another command.

So in the world of "inappropriate titles"...

So her title is "VP of Technology"

                                            spam_marketer.png

But what is her real job? Spam marketing to get people to go to sales webinars. Um... if your company's head of IT's actual job role is telling IT people about webinars to be sales people, dear lord what kind of a shit company is that? What could they possibly be qualified to do? Certainly nothing involving IT, sales, or marketing.
