Or worse they forcible add a tip without your consent.
My older brother is a very soft spoken gay guy, and I mention this because this happened to him when we were out at a restaurant and he, for the first time in my life I ever saw, flipped out and screamed at the waitress. It was like watching a scene from The Bird Cage.

Iceberg Wedge Salad
I'm not sure what that is but it sounds like a new ice cream or york peppermint patty.
Literally iceberg lettuce cut into a wedge.
just by looking at i can say they will charge that much
That is just from google. My guess would be $14 for it. But still it's lettuce. The least beneficial veggie that there is.

The price for that is probably high.

Drink menus are a bit different, as I expect to pay $8-12 for a mix drink.
But food! Like come on, tell me if I'm spending $20 or $40 on a steak (as an example).
Just looking at one menu for an option for lunch. Iceberg Wedge Salad - No price
WTF! Is it a $8 salad or a $14 salad?!
It's both,
they choose which one you pay.
Yeah and the wait staff expects a tip on top of it. Or worse they forcible add a tip without your consent.
ahhh auto-gratuity is fun to set up
It should be illegal.
What's even more dumb about it, is if they choose to do that, They have to tax it both with the city tax and (in omaha atleast) the city ordinance on food/bev.
and then tax the rest of the check. -

Like you need to be when you sit down and order it.
Can I get the hallucinogenic mushrooms on my iceberg wedge. Thanks

You are kinda forced to pay a service charge in the US ain't you? Its not forced here in the UK and most don't too but I like to if the service has been good.

I'm all for food looking nice and presentable. No one wants to eat nutrient paste. But if it's price well and fills me up fill my bowl with nutrient paste.

No, that's a UK thing I thought, they add it, but nowhere I am aware in the US does that at all, just the total and you optionally tip.

I know for sure in Omaha, Lincoln areas ( State of Nebraska,) You have to pay the food/bev tax, and the Arena tax ( which is to pay for the Stadium in Lincoln.)
But yeah, We have to pay taxes all the way around. -

Forced? no - as @Obsolesce (I think) was saying - he never tips (I assume that's what you mean by a service charge). It's typically not required -but FULLY expected.
-
If you don't tip at a place or for the service (delivery) expect your next order to be messed up somehow.
Pineapple on pizza anyone?

The way I see Service Charge ( working in this field) is the occupation tax that is the Businesses obligation to pay the city they are operating in, Businesses then Obligate that to your check, because fuck my customers.
It's ridiculous, but restaurant owners are greedy people. -

My mother was a waitress. It doesn't matter to me if the food was garbage -- I can't blame them for that, as long as the waiter/waitress was polite and put up with me. I typically give 50% tips to men, 100% to women, and a few times I've gone up to 1,000%. I also tip pizza delivery guys 100% and a few times one repeat deliveries they've brought me "free" stuff.
I realise this is unrealistic for most people, but I'm also attempting to covertly buy my way out of hell.
