I was also able to remotely connect to the hypervisor on my Korora 25 laptop via VMM.
Caveat: I'm able to manage the VMs settings, but not view through the console. It just keeps repeatedly asking me for the password. No issues adding/removing a NIC, though.
I have some more things to try. I'll report back with results. Anyone else run in to this connecting to a remote host? Maybe it has to do with the VPN connection...
Change your Display in the virtual machine in VMM from SPICE to VNC
If I use VNC, then the webconsole won't work. Id prefer to keep using spice if possible, or find a way to make VNC work.
I will switch it later to see if that resolves the VMM issue.

Okay, so SPICE does work remotely on my Korora laptop via VMM. I just didn't type in my password enough times. It asks for it 6 times before it displays the VM, and there's about a 7-8 second delay when the VM is not running a GUI. After I "startx", then it seems fine, though just a bit laggy.
I also tried switching to VNC, and that just straight up doesn't work. At this point it's just a time sink to get working since SPICE seems to work fine everywhere.

@Tim_G Is this is just a 1:1 or can you use this install to manage multiple KVM hosts?

I'm not sure I understand the question, but I'll try.
My step-by-step guide is for each host you want to set up.
Then on your Fedora-based workstation/laptop, you can use VMM to view and manage all of your hosts and VMs. This will rely on you being on the local network physically, or via VPN.
Via the web (the Kimchi host/VM manager), that's per host. You need to go to the https://ip:8001 for each host you want to manage. This could potentially be done simply via any web browser anywhere in the world you have an internet connection, without the need to VPN.

That sounds good. I'll see about figuring that out next.

And put your user in the libvirt group if you haven't.

I'm just using root on this server since it's just a test setup. From what I understand, I don't need to do that with root, so I haven't. Am I wrong?

Root already is, so not wrong.

@tim_g
I like , and I do use this but a couple of pointers:
Minimal setup can be:
wget http://kimchi-project.github.io/wok/downloads/latest/wok.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
wget http://kimchi-project.github.io/kimchi/downloads/latest/kimchi.el7.centos.noarch.rpmCause you are downloading this on server, and gingerbase is good and all, but it just provides the monitoring and shutdown of Host, which can be optional.
Secondly Kimchi is very modular, and you can stop it :
systemctl stop wokd
systemctl stop nginxAnd you are back to Vanilla KVM, what I do is I rely on cockpit and have those packages ready if needed. and start them manually / on demand. cause they do consume some RAM. but still very neat ESXi contender.
I initially did without ginger/gingerbase... but I really liked the Host management and monitoring it offers, so I kept it in. Not needed with Cockpit, but it's nice if to not have to switch tabs... and ginger doesn't offer terminal. So I like to have both. Personal preference, really.
Can also do it with only "Fedora Minimal", as installing kimchi and all that also installs virtualization. That's one thing I love about DNF, it's good about installing prereqs, and removing them if not needed.

Links seem to be broken.
wget http://kimchi-project.github.io/wok/downloads/latest/wok.fedora.noarch.rpm
wget http://kimchi-project.github.io/kimchi/downloads/latest/kimchi.fedora.noarch.rpmLooks like they've killed the links. You can try installing it from the repository. When I tried that months ago, it installed a very old version. Perhaps they fixed it.
Test it on a VM, you can take a snapshot, try it, revert back, try something different, revert back, etc.
