Looking at Microsoft's Hyper-V hypervisor and digging into what kind of hypervisor it is and how it works and why it looks the way that it does.
Transcript to come.

Good video, thanks!

Thanks. I knew it was Type 1 but I haven't used it that much. I didn't know how it behaved when installed as the "role" and then converted to a VM. That is pretty interesting.

The way you pronounce "hypervisor" sounds Irish. #justsayin

That's interesting. Now I wonder how I say it.

Is there a way of telling which avenue a host has come to be?
- Was it installed as a free Hyper-V host only?
or
- Was it originally a windows machine with the Hyper-V role added later?
If so, how?

If there is a full GUI on the console, it was installed as a service.
The name on the logon screen will be different, I think the Hyper-V only version is called Hyper-V server 2016.
But could be wrong, @JaredBusch will correct me if I am. -

In the command prompt type: msinfo32.exe
In the System Summary > OS Name, the value will say Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2016 or Microsoft Windows Server 2016 -
Guess what version of Hyper-V I have.
The tick box version and not the right kind. Plus, I can't change this because this is the ERP system. I could just smack somebody.

You can change it by getting a PC set up with hyper V 2016 migrate to that then format the machine reinstall 2016 on the server hardware in migrate back.
