While in NY for MangoCon 2016, I picked up a HP DL385 G5 from the NTG Inventory.

As it turns out,.. it would seem that this is the unit with a failed MOBO.

Is it worth $100 (plus S&H) to replace?

      DL385 G5

      • Dual PSU
      • Dual CPU
      • Two 73GB 15.1k drives
      • Two 146GB 10k drives

Do you want to use this for a lab server or production?

For maybe $150 I don't see why not, you'd have 8 cores to work with, which should be more than enough for a lab.

I won't need anything production class - If I did, I would go with something newer, and with a warranty, and more disk space. I can add four more drives, but why..

Pretty much a 'lab' box. Not even sure what I need or would do with it. I have a NAS, so it's not needed for storage.

            I got a DL380 G6 with 24 GB RAM for $200 off of Amazon. I'd say no.

Nice thoughts for some lab machines there.

Or for me, backup machines for our production server. 🙂

Not to be totally self serving.... You all have the opportunity to have lab access to NTG's lab you know 😉

But having a lab on the other side of the country isn't the same as having one that I can go smash with a hammer until it starts behaving itself again.

Yes, I do. And when I get things sorted out I may do just that.

However box could end up running some software to host a Radio system,.. so has to be local (to the radio).

                        Ah well.. no biggie.

That's why we didn't get it fixed.
