So just left a new client's office. They paid $500 for some Indian scam company to do their IT for 2 years. There was a file on the desktop called scan.bat that when run essentially echoed different percents complete and then at the end echoed you have 5823 issues that need to be resolved (along with some other junk). There was another batch file called reset that added and removed a bunch of registries and deleted some files.
Wow - so what did they say when you wanted $500 a month or more?
I didn't even quote anything. I just charged them for the time I was there and promptly ran away.
That's, um, great. How did they take the news that they had been scammed?

Wasting my time trying to file a phishing complaint with GoDaddy.

Sounds like fun. It came from their servers?

They just kind of brushed it off. But if I would have charged them $500 they would have complained and never paid.

Did you not charge them at all?

No I did. I did some other work, but I didn't charge them very much.

No stupidity tax? That seems like a missed opportunity.

Yes, it probably was. I hate how polite I am.

That is one tax that should never go away.

I'd vote for an increase on that.

Some where in the order or 300 to 500% increase for first offense. Second offense should see an additionall 700 to 900% increase.

Running the update scripts for everything. Now that I've got ZeroTier I don't need to make the 3 mile drive

How is ZT saving you a 3 mile drive? lol

I was wondering the same thing - no jump box assuming 'nix? or normal VPN assuming Windows RDS?

Got guacamole running but I have this weird Nightmare Before Christmas font going on.

I've got command line access to the remote server now. The connection is only 700k/150k DSL, and the best RDP client ever doesn't mean that remote support is possible over that connection. ZT just makes getting a VPN up and running so very much easier than anything I've tried before. @Dashrender I'm using ZT into the jumpbox vm, so I can hit the backup SamSD and host.
