An issue that may come up is I don't believe he has admin access to install roles.

He might, but not from what I saw.

Yet he can be allowed to add an completely uncontrolled OS on his desktop?

Not in any shop I control.

/sigh - this is a home machine - if he doesn't have admin, it's because he forgot the password.

didnt forget passsword.. just didnt right click and run as admin

      LOL, that'll do it.

yeah it was a simple mistake i knew i made as soon as i made it

Apparently i dont have enough space for a fedora dual boot.. @JaredBusch do you have a walkthrough on how to use hyper-v?

You just "install the Hyper-V role" under roles.

He couldn't open device manager, he doesn't have access to install roles.

I can, i just didnt run it on my admin account. I have 2 accounts. one as admin one as user

I believe i have full admin rights of this device, @Dashrender would be able to tell me differently seeing how i bought this computer from him and installed Windows 10.

    • Wanting to Dual boot to test KVM.. Where do i begin?

Was thinking Fedora as recommended by @DustinB3403.
Right now I have Windows 10 Pro, was trying to test in Oracle Virtual Box but with many failed attempts: wouldn't reboot, was constantly running slow and freezing, install wouldnt complete, and I am really tired of fighting with it.
Want to try KVM to test Unifi Controller,
Can anybody point me in the right direction or provide a walk through?
      Thanks

The guide you're following tells you to create /etc/apt/sources.list.d/100-ubnt.list

So do a sudo touch /etc/apt/sources.list.d/100-ubnt.list and then put in the 3 records, save the file and go from there.

okay, its still doing the same thing. how do you "put in the 3 records" treat me like i dont know what im doing (Cause i really dont)

Are you connected to this VM via PUTTY? If so do sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/100-ubnt.list then you can copy the records directly into the file.

ctrl + o to save the file and then ctrl + x to exit the file.

No idea. I litterally opened Oracle Virtual box and started my Controller.

      OK...

type in ip addr find the IP address and then use putty to connect to this VM. Once your logged into the VM as "williamcombs" proceed with editing the file using nano.

    • Unifi Controller in Oracle Virtual Box Problems

I am currently working on setting up my Unifi controller using Orcale Virtual Box using https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/220066768-UniFi-How-to-Install-Update-via-APT-on-Debian-or-Ubuntu
i keep running into this problem: RpR0Aae.png
any idea how i can fix this?
      Now i did have a syntax error in /etc/apt/sources.list.d I typed "/etc/apt/sources.list.d/100-ubnt.lsit"
removed the file, and retyped in the command from the website above. tried to continue with the work but i keep getting this error.
      Thanks in advanced

Apparently a good order to watch them in for newbies is Episodes 4, 5,2,3,6,7

Im going to use this order when I get a few days in a row to show my girlfriend, who has sadly never seen star wars either, thank you!
